Lunch

My partner and I went to Samphire for lunch yesterday afternoon. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead for a table at the window, lovely views. Really nice atmosphere, staff can't do enough for you and the food was delicious..especially the smoked haddock with creamy mash and a cheese sauce. For... read more

My wife booked here online for my birthday 3 weeks in advance to get a choice of two times, so got booked for bit earlier than wanted only to get email shortly after to say we would have to vacate the table 2.5 hrs after, I would rather decide myself , so I will spend my money elsewhere and have... Had the most amazing night at Orroco Pier on Saturday night our waitress Bailey was really nice and very attentive Chris at the bar was chatty and helpful. The food we ordered was of a very high standard. A little time in between courses but remember its good food not fast food and who cares when the view and atmosphere are... More

Think this place is living on its reputation.Sure the location and view is stunning but our service on Saturday night was poor.We had to call the waiter after almost finishing our meal to order wine and our string fries were under cooked. Give yourselves a,shake?

had an lovely evening out with friends at Samphire at Orocco Pier on Sat 28th feb. Serves was very good and food tasty. The only disappointing thing about our meals was the cheese board. To charge £8.95 for 4 small pieces of cheese was over the top. The slices were almost as thin as I would put on a sandwich.... More

Invited here for a meal on a Friday evening meal excellent service, excellent food maybe a bit over priced for everything but definitely a good experience with excellent views (perhaps that explains the pricing). The Sea Bass as was cooked to perfection, all in all well worth a visit.

The setting is stunning. The service excellent. Food was really good too. Best oysters I've ever had. Steaks perfectly cooked. You get what you pay for and this is quite pricey and really, really good.

Very disappointed again in this restaurant. Embarrassing when you take someone out for a special lunch. This place definitely rates itself higher than it should. Won't be back.

I had promised never to return to Orocco Pier after a very disappointing Christmas Lunch in 2013, however it was my Mum's choice of venue for her birthday lunch on 23rd January 2015. Very disappointing food. The ricotta cheese starter was bland - no hint of lemon and cold, greasy wantons. The chicken main was very overlooked. Dry and tough,... More

Food quality is ok. Crab fish cakes to start, not made by a chef I'm certain they had been cooked from frozen. Lamb main course was tiny! I was honest with a member of staff when she asked how my meal was, I said politly it was nice but very small, another member of staff came over to address my... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
