Lunch

My partner and I went to Samphire for lunch yesterday afternoon. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead for a table at the window, lovely views. Really nice atmosphere, staff can't do enough for you and the food was delicious..especially the smoked haddock with creamy mash and a cheese sauce. For... read more

Have now lunched here 3 times. Just book ahead and you will probably get a window table. Spectacular views, very attentive staff and lovely food. I have eaten better but not at these prices.

We ate here for my mother in laws birthday. On arrival we found the staff very friendly and we were seated fairly promptly. There is a good choice on the menu and once ordered the food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I opted to have the steak without the marinate. Whilst small it was very nice. The hand... More

This is the first time I've been to South Queens Ferry, what a quaint village with an amazing hotel Orocco Pier. We had booked a table in the 'Samphire' restaurant over looking the bay and of course the Forth Bridge. The restaurant was busy with a great atmosphere, the staff were young and friendly, the menu contained lots of local produce... More

My wife booked here online for my birthday 3 weeks in advance to get a choice of two times, so got booked for bit earlier than wanted only to get email shortly after to say we would have to vacate the table 2.5 hrs after, I would rather decide myself , so I will spend my money elsewhere and have... Think this place is living on its reputation.Sure the location and view is stunning but our service on Saturday night was poor.We had to call the waiter after almost finishing our meal to order wine and our string fries were under cooked. Give yourselves a,shake?

had an lovely evening out with friends at Samphire at Orocco Pier on Sat 28th feb. Serves was very good and food tasty. The only disappointing thing about our meals was the cheese board. To charge £8.95 for 4 small pieces of cheese was over the top. The slices were almost as thin as I would put on a sandwich.... More

Invited here for a meal on a Friday evening meal excellent service, excellent food maybe a bit over priced for everything but definitely a good experience with excellent views (perhaps that explains the pricing). The Sea Bass as was cooked to perfection, all in all well worth a visit.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
