Not your usual Indian restaurant, Zest is smart and modern with a terrific menu combining classic and inventive dishes. The decor in this bright, airy, centre-of-town shopfront is clean and open, with white walls, blond chairs, contemporary styling. The menu includes dishes like starter of Zest's own tandoori trout, main course of medium-spicy Jaipuri chicken with fried mushrooms, onions and capsicums with Punjabi masala in thick sauce. Peshwari naan and bhajis are excellent. The service is hip and friendly and the wine list well matched to the flavours. And yes, there is chicken tikka masala, if you must, but this is a great place for exploring new flavours.

Outstanding Restaurant!

This restaurant was recommended to us by an Indian friend of ours, and we were not disappointed in any shape or form. From the moment we walked through the door, the service was exemplary. We weren't planning to stay too long, we were eating prior to a performance at the Edinburgh Playhouse. The... read more

Just visited this Indian and iv got to say this is the worst Curry iv ever had in my entire life, me and my partner have spent the weekend here for his birthday and thought we'd have an Indian after reading all the positive feed back for zest we thought we'd go there, the starter wasn't even cooked so the... Myself and a friend were looking for a place for dinner on a monday night. We found Zest and whilst the layout of the restaurant may not be the most fancy place you can dine in, the food quality and service was top class. Would definitely recommend the specials. Price paid was in line with expectations for an Indian restaurant,... More

Had main course only.....staying at tge Ibis near the Scott Memorial so felt we had to have the lamb dish! Hubby had manflu so waiter recommended 297 chicken dish which would cure him!! I make a point of eating here every month with colleagues whilst visiting Edinburgh on business - the food is always excellent - I can't go long without a fix of their green herb vegetables in particular! The service is always fantastic and the staff are amongst the most friendly I've met. I've never been to Broughty Ferry, but check... More

We visited Zest last night . I hate to disagree with fellow reviewers, but this was the worst Indian food I have ever tasted. We eat Indian food in Bombay Joes in Broughty Ferry at least once a week and it is superb. The staff at Zest are very hospitable but you eat in a restaurant for the food and... More

I visit Edinburgh over 20 times a year. Zest is the first choice to eat out. The P297 is a really tasty main course. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
