Description: Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

I absolutely love this restaurant, it can get quite busy so I would recommend making a reservation but the food is absolutely fantastic. The menu changes more often than most restaurants change their specials so you with each visit you know you are going to get something new that you likely haven't tried before. The staff are very friendly but... More

Really enjoyed our visit. Lovely food and friendly staff who didn't impose on our evening. Very good value for money.

We have been here a few times and never been disappointed. The food is fresh, tasty and v high quality and the prices are very competitive. The restaurant has a real buzz too. Would certainly recommend and it is worth going slightly off the beaten track for.

Up from London, wandered off the beaten tourist track, liked the look of the menu, so ate here. Menu not over large, fish/meat/veg all catered for. Tight menu may indicate quality ingredients, which was the case. Starters excellent, mains very good. Most wines by the glass. Had to run for the theatre, so missed the puds. We had the early... My wife's sisters, partners and ourselves take it in turns to choose a restaurant monthly to meet up for lunch. My wife had been here before, so she suggested it. Very impressed with their 3 course lunch options. A bit different from what I might normally choose, but it was really good and the wine was reasonably priced as well.... More

We ate here one evening and got a table without having to book. The range of foods on the menu was interesting with a god mix of styles but for me they didn't quite carry it off. The side dishes in particular were a little odd with my aubergine dish tasting a little too sharp and vinegary. The food was... More

Came here on a Tuesday night with some friends for the Early Evening menu, which offers a great range of choices with some innovative flavours and unusual ingredients. We all happened to fancy the fish so we all had the coley, served with creme fraiche, baby potatoes, and basil amongst others. Fish was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. We then... More

The early evening menu once again. The first impression was excellent, with a knowledgeable and enthusiastic member of staff showing us to a table near the fire. He explained that one of the starters was finished, but replaced with black pudding and caramelised apple - very good indeed. Aubergine zaalouk was an imaginative and splendidly interesting take on baba ganoush.... More

Met friends there on a visit to Edinburgh - pushed for time but the service was superb, food delicious and great value. 5 minutes from the Premier Inn Hotel and the Haymarket station. Would definitely visit again for lunch. Our friends picked it out as convenient for us given our available time and they had taken pot luck - which... More
