Description: Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

A bit out of the way and not outstanding but still pleasant dinner. Didn't come close to living up to high ratings but was a solid dinner. Steaks a bit overcooked. Mussels good. Lamb special very good. Try to avoid sitting in side room where all kitchen staff pass through to take dirty dishes to basement.

My husband and I eat here regularly as we live nearby and the food is consistently of a really high standard and great value. The flavour combinations are always interesting too and the staff very friendly and attentive. It also has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I generally like to try new restaurants and am reluctant to eat in the same place... More

We booked a table at First Coast after seeing it in the Lonely Planet guide. What a great restaurant. The menu is not overloaded which clearly means that it is all cooked fresh. There are also daily specials. I had steamed hake for main which was a delight. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the restaurant has a great buzz.... More

We were recommended to eat here by our hotel the Haymarket (worth staying at!!!) and although they were very busy they managed to fit us in. The place was nicely and simply decorated and although busy the service was very good, the food offered was interesting dishes and tasted terrific, all for a reasonable price. We will definately eat there... More

We went back having not been for a couple of years. I had the starter of black pudding which was rather ordinary, bordering on disappointing. My colleague had the mushroom soup which was well received. We both had the steak for the main for which there was a supplement. We order our steaks cooked differently and each was cooked as... More

Stopped in for lunch this week and ate from their set menu. Butler's steak is tremendous and reasonable. Friend has a pork stew which she thought was sublime, and she regularly picks pork in restaurants. You always get homemade bread at the table which is very tasty. We finished off with a coffee which was also lovely. We regularly eat... More

We have walked past First Coast a number of times. Never felt like going in. Staying with a friend a short distance away she surprised us by booking a table the night before we left the city. So pleased she did. Great staff, excellent food and a good choice of wine. Sat talking until late and realised we were the... More

We went here on a whim on our first night in Edinburgh. What luck! It is a small, neighborhood place with excellent food and a great staff. We ordered the steamed seafood (a special starter that evening), ox cheeks, and the squid and fish burger to start and then shared the lamb for our entree. Every dish was delicious, although... More

We decided to try this restaurant after reading the recommendations on Tripadvisor. We tried to book online, only to find that it was fully booked, so, a little disappointed, we headed for the same street to see what other restaurants we could find. On passing First Coast, we noticed that it didn't look full, so we popped in & asked... More
