Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

Great little find

We were looking for a nice restaurant for an evening out but because it was a last minute decision on where to go our normal haunts were all booked. First coast rated highly on trip advisor and a table was available online to book so we headed here - I am so glad we did. It is a relaxed bistro... read more

But to be frank, it didn't live up to the hype. The service was fine, food fine, but i want a bit more from an evening meal.

I was lucky enough to be taken to lunch here before the Scotland v Italy match on Saturday 29 Aug. I had the Thai Soup and Haggies Neeps & Tatties, cos I am a simple guy. Delicious soup with a 'kick,' & great veg consistency. My decision on haggis neeps and tatties was vindicated with a superbly tasty dish that... More

We were here last month and were that impressed we decided to give it another go. Once again it was excellent. I had the spicy bean soup to start and haggis for the main (Both were superb). All the other dishes we tried were also great. The service again was first class. If you've not tried this place, you must... More

I have dined here several times and have always been satisfied . The food is good quality and original. The portions are just the right size so id recommend people have 3 courses ! There are various menus to choose from and have differing prices. They are all reasonably priced. The staff are efficient, friendly and helpful. The restaurant is... More

About a mile from the Haymarket, so a good walk...but greaat to work up a good appetite. Food and service top class....had a "grain flatbread" starter which Iexpected to be modest but which was a treat of understatement...rest of the meal terrific. Wine list a little brief...but good.

Visited the restaurant for the 1st time last night although I must have passed it hundreds of times going to work. What a find. My wife & I booked a table on line during the day and arrived on time. We were greeted with smiles all round and shown to our table which was well laid out and a jug... More

Arrived here without a booking fairly late on a Friday night during the Festival, but somehow the helpful staff managed to find us a table and ensure that we got to our next show on time. Food is eclectic, tasty and reasonably priced. just what you need from a good neighbourhood restaurant, not too far out of town; handy for... More
