Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

Great find

At the last minute, on the recommendation by a friend, we visited this wonderful place. The service was very prompt and friendly. The menu was varied and inventive. Our starters, mains and puddings were all excellent. We will definitely go back and will recommend to friends/family. It is also just... read more

Came ones for dinner and everything was perfect lovely menu, lovely food and lovely service. However when I came back for lunch it was very disappointing. The burger I ordered was very small and the food was cold. Nobody came back and check on us and we had to walk to the bar to pay because nobody came to the... More

Visited on a miserable Tuesday in February at lunch time. Service and food were tremendous. Great dishes, cooked to perfection. The style and presentation would grace the finest tables. Indeed we remarked that had we been planning a celebration meal for a number of guests 'First Coast' would be a consideration. The day we visited was cold outside, and, as... More

We dined with friends on the 14th of February. First Coast was booked based on previous positive visits. Visiting Edinburgh for the rugby. The set meal was dissapointing in terms of quality. My friends steak was cold and my chicken curry was hot and not mild as stated. Very expensive for what it was. It's a shame as previous meals... More

Absolutely spotless. Fancy without being pretentious, fantastic service without being on top of you and the food is just great. Book it and you won't regret. I did it for a business dinner with 6 people and the outcome was a great time.

Had a two course meal here - good service, waitress very pleasant - steak was good but chips with were a bit too oven chips tasting for me. Maybe they should try a skin on chip! Overall I would rate it average to good as I felt like it was rather pricey.

I went to first coast with my partner for valentines evening, having booked it for 6.30, they had, within reason requested, on such a busy evening, we would have the table until 8pm. I felt this was reasonable. When we arrived however, the waitress had told us (in a pleasant manner) we had our table until 7.45. They were welcoming... More

Dalry is not the restaurant centre of Edinburgh. Maybe it should be as it has quite a few decent eateries and First Coast is definitely one of them. One of the advantages of being outside of the City Centre is that prices can be kept a bit lower without compromising on quality. First Coast seems to understand this. The restaurant... More

First Coast is a real gem of a restaurant - offering modern bistro style cooking which blends great Scottish ingredients with different world cuisines. Although prices have increased over the last few years - the service remains friendly and the food really good. If you're looking for seasonal food in a friendly setting - don't hesitate!

Went early to take advantage of early evening menu which is good value. Good range, even for fussy kids who were more than happy with fish & chips. Big portions too. 2 courses each plus 1 round of drinks for 2 adults and 2 kids only came to £64. Only gripe is the location, which we walked to, not realising... More
