Description: Opening Hours:- MONDAY - Saturday. Lunch 12pm-2pm Dinner 5pm-10.30pm West Edinburgh wasn't a dining hotspot, but charming, inviting, delicious First Coast is one of the establishments that have been changing that. A comfy toddle from Haymarket station, First Coast is quite an intimate, relaxed shop front restaurant done out the blues and greys of the sea, with rough hewn centre wall and super smart detailing. The frequently-changing modern Scottish menu lists meat and fowl as well as fish. Starters include very tender marinated squid, soy and sesame salad, mains include spicy grilled chicken breast with homemade sweet chilli sauce and coconut rice, and sweets include deep fried jam sandwich with vanilla ice cream- seriously. Short, thoughtful wine list, good vegetarian choices and warm service.

We have taken visitors here twice this month and were very impressed on both occasions. There is an interesting and varied menu, with more than one choice for veggies, (a real plus!); cheerful staff make a nice welcome; and delicious freshly prepared food always surprises with unexpected subtle flavours. A lovely Bistro without pretensions.

I've eaten here a number of times now ... it truly is one of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is great. The menu changes daily (I think) so that it's cooked with the freshest ingredients and to suit the season. Recently I've been in a BIG group and also been with 3 others... More

Very, very good food. I had a vegetarian main with polenta, mushrooms, etc. and it was outstanding. One of the best main courses I had on our trip. Definitely a 5 star. My husband thought his ox check starter and main fish course delicious. I give 4 stars for a less than average starter bread (ordinary tasting white roll) and... More

My wife met a cousin from the Isle of Man for the first time in this restaurant. Our group of 6 were greeted by very friendly staff and the combination of the service, menu and surrounds made it a special night to remember.

Delicious, imaginatively prepared food; great wines; friendly staff - what was not to love? This was our favorite restaurant in Scotland; if we lived in Edinburgh, we'd be regulars. On the night we were there, they were very busy and service wasn't fast, but we didn't feel at all neglected (staff kept checking in with us) and the atmosphere was... More

My sister and I had a lovely meal at First Coast! The service was nice and the food was tasty and came out quickly. We recommend, as others on trip advisor have, trying the Ox cheek for an entree, it is a must have. Overall, great food and great service and reasonably priced.

It's in a not so beautiful area, but look past that. The inside of the restaurant is fresh and inviting. The service was friendly and quick. We decided on an early dinner and made our reservations the previous day. (it was pretty full) We both ordered the whole fried gurnard (a sight to see) with the noodles and chilli carmel,... More

Five of us ate here and we all agreed that it was the best meal we had in Edinburgh and we had several. The ox cheeks starter was amazing!

Visited First Coast at the end of 2013. Heard many positives from people working in the Catering industry- it did not dissapoint. A quality dinner based on local ingredients, a blend of Scottish and international cuisine. Very good value as well- they do not stick abusive prices. It will be my choice should I happen to visit beautiful Edinburgh again.

The menus weren't laminated which I thought was strange (they probably change everyday so that could be a plausible explanation). The ambiance is very good and relaxing. Staff were very friendly, easy to approach and facilitate any requests. They ensured we were enjoying ourselves and that we had everything we needed. Little things such as lighting up our candle or... More
