Michelin don't hand out stars for nothing

Driving along Leith Walk out of Edinburgh town centre, as you get closer to The shore, you sort of start to worry where you are going to. Worry ye not, keep going through the chavvy bit and you will find a waterside gem, decent pubs and the jewel in the crown - Wishart's. Stylish surroundings... read more

In February my companion and I had dinner at the restaurant. On entering, our coats and my cashmere pashmina, were taken and we were ushered to our seats. After an enjoyable evening and spending over £300 we were ready to go. Our coats came but not my scarf. After some searching it could not be located so it was suggested... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Wishart's. We opted for the tasting menus - one fish and one classic with matched wine. Every course was a treat. There was nothing that we didn't like. Every plate was clean when it left the table and the wine choices were really interesting. We couldn't pick a favourite. Absolutely everything was delicious. The... More

My husband and I enjoyed dining at MW recently. We both chose the fish tasting menu . There were 6 detailed courses on the menu however with the addition of canapés and amuse bouche servings prior to the first course and an additional 3 sweet offerings after the final course there was a total of 13 separate servings!! Too much... More

We went to Martin Wishart for a Saturday lunch and everything was excellent. We took the 6 courses fish tasting menu, and every single meal, from the amuse bouche, to the main course, to the dessert was mind blowing. My favourite dish is the kilbrannan langoustine; it was cooked to perfection. They allowed me to change my main course for... More

This was our first visit to MW, but our 4th Scottish Michelin star restaurant. Food is as you would expect lovely. There are 3 taster menus, and much to our pleasant surprise, we were able to "mix and match". Wife and I went for seafood taster, but swapped turbot for deer. No problem at all. Service is great. Personally however,... More

Martin Wishart is both. As a chef he has an exceptional creative ability - a genius innovator of menus that celebrate the original and his restaurants operate like ingenious machines. Seated comfortably at an immaculate table for two we wanted to maximise our Michelin-star experience. My husband chose the Fish Tasting Menu and I the Classic Tasting Menu. We oohed... More

This was our second visit to the restaurant, our first for the tasting menu. We were celebrating as a group of four and the food for the fish and meat eaters was excellent, less so for the awkward vegetarian in our group. The vegetarian menu, other than the excellent aubergine dish, consisted of lots of lovely purees without a great... More

Absolutely superb meal - creative, inventive cooking at its best. I took my wife to MW as a birthday present and we chose different tasting menus - the classic and the seasonal. Both were outstanding. In addition, we had at least two (could even have been three) additional amuses bouche/pre-starters, a palette-cleansing sorbet and a pre-dessert thrown in as complimentary...
