We were looking for a place where we could find both meat and vegetarian haggis as a "compulsory" tribute to the country´s food. We found it in this cosy pub. The food was good and the service too as far as a pub can deal with. There were some live music which was very pleasant although the poor guys did... More

Went for a evening meal with my wife and son. We all had the tasting menu which was exquisite. Snails we extraordinary delicious along side their eggs. The service was very good. Our French waiter really was excellent and knowledgable. Obviously the chef takes great pride in his procurement of ingredients as only the best is used. It doesn't take... More

We went to the Balmoral on the recommendation of my brother and were not disappointed. It was a celebration meal having just got engaged that afternoon and was a wonderful way to round off the day. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable but not intrusive, leaving you to enjoy the amazing food in peace. Mentioning the food - wow! The dishes... More

Visited Number One whilst on holiday in Edinburgh with family and choose it because of the great reviews and the fact the restaurant uses Scottish ingredients. We choose the Tasting Menu with wine and they accomodated us even though the tasting menu stops at 9pm and our booking was for 9pm. The tasting menu was amazing, great flavours and combinations.... Superb atmosphere and service. The tasting menu is amazing. Good location, just adjacent to the railway station and on the Princes Street. Reservation can be done by e-mail. Prompt reply. Quality of food as good as Castle Terrace Restaurant but are much more spacious and slightly better and caring service.Highly recommended. Will be back again!!

As a Number One virgin my expectations were high, I was not disappointed!! Gary Quinn, the manager, hosted our evening with grace and warmth, ushering the diners to their tables, 'conducting' the service as only a maestro could and tending to our every need. The service staff were clearly happy at work, knowledgeable and attentive yet discreet. The space between... More

Having booked this restaurant, at the Balmoral Hotel on Princess street, 4 weeks in advance for my niece's birthday, My wife and I travelled up the day before from London and phoned up on the train on the day before, to find out that our table of 5 had been put back 1 hour to 21.30 without any notice, which... This was the wife and I's second visit to Number One. The first visit was great, this visit was exceptional!! The food and ambience was fantastic, the beef from the al a carte was divine. Ordered a 2nd half bottle of Chateau Mussar (the wife was on Champagne), was asked if it was good and replied it tasted slightly unpleasant... More

My husband and I had the most wonderful meal at this fabulous restaurant. From the moment we walked through the doors to the time that we left we could not have asked for more. I am wheat intolerant and it was not a problem at all. The food was to die for, every mouthful was amazing and the people who... More
