A wonderful Experience

Our experience at Number One was amazing - it is certainly one of the best meals we've had. Each dish was perfect showing tremendous care and attention to detail. The atmosphere was informal and unpretentious and the service was friendly and attentive.

A fantastic experience, my husband and I stayed for two nights at the Balmoral we booked a 10 course tasting menu, the chef pandered to my garlic intolerance and each course was just wonderful. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. We had such a great meal we booked for the following evening and went A la carte, again we... More

I had an opportunity to eat here last week and the food was fabulous!! The service was also exceptional. For my starter I had the Hand Dived Scallops. It tasted great. They also provided us with some complimentary samplers that were also quite good. The main course I had the Inverurie Hogget, which is lamb. It was awesome, especially since... More

As a long time lover of lamb, I was disappointed not to find lamb on the menu. Our excellent waiter informed me that hogget is lamb, between one and 2 years old. Of course I ordered it and WOW. It was tender and flavorful. everything was good, but I'm still thinking about that hogged a few weeks later!

We visited Number One whilst staying in Edinburgh. It was out first experience of a Michelin star restaurant, and what an amazing experience. Just beyond anything we could have dreamt of! We arrived earlier and had a drink whilst waiting for our table. We ordered the 7 course taster menu with the accompanying wines and I can not do the... More

Due to Parking, we were later than our booking, though I did inform them of the fact. Our table was well situated and the Menu enough of a choice to be pleasing. The food was delicious as were the little extras that were offered by the Chef. The Tasting Menu looked interesting, but there were a selection of dishes on... More

I took my girlfriend here for her birthday 3 years ago, when we had an amazing time. Therefore, returning 3 years later for our anniversary we were hoping it lived up to our memories. It did and more. The atmosphere is very intimate, the staff excellent and friendly and the food exquisite. The best restaurant experience we've ever had.

A very spacious restaurant, private, quiet and with very attentive staff. Food was very good and very well prepared if not a little busy on the plate. The standout for us was the quality of the service.

My fiancé and I came here just after I had popped the question. The food and service from the staff was outstanding, we could not have asked for more. Hope to be back again soon to the number one place in Edinburgh :)

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
