A special venue for a special occasion is what I look for and the Number One delivers. My wife chose this for her birthday celebration and we were treated like royalty. You know the staff are good when each and every one call you by name, even when you looking for the restroom but I digress. The thing about Michelin... More

We enjoyed the tasting menu here last Sunday and whilst I can't fault the food, we were not as blown away as some of the other diners who have eaten here and reviewed the restaurant (and possible meant we went with too high expectations). Overall we were less impressed and surprised than we have been in some other high end... More

This was one amazing meal and probably the best restaurant I've ever been to in my 50+ years. The ambience was sophisticated and relaxing, the service friendly and very attentive (but never obtrusive). My starter of scallops was a delight: juicy and perfectly cooked. My companion opted for the fois gras and expressed utter satisfaction. My main course was the... More

This was one of the best dining experiences of my life! A perfect place to go for a special occasion, we went for our anniversary and it couldn't have been a better choice of location! The staff were very friendly and attentive, but in no way intrusive. The food was brilliant, I really can't find a fault. Granted, it's pricey,... More

Honestly, this is my first experience ever in a Michelin-Starred restaurant. A decent ambient and nice staff. I really loved my starter of scallop, however, my main, the Orkney beef was not as expected. I mean the beef itself, while the garnish was delicious. My friends ordered the lobster and turbo and a high thumb-up from them! TThe macaroon served... More

What fantastic food and amazing staff. From start to finish the service is faultless. The food is presented to such a high standard and this runs right through the whole experience. Unlike some of the London 'starred' restaurants Number one doesn't have airs and graces. The only downside is the room has no windows as it's below the hotel which... More

We had such a great meal the first night I called up and got a reservation the second night and it was as great or better, our only regret is we did not have enough time for a third night. Our meals at Number 1 were far and away the best we had in our month in Europe. The cooking... More

See my review of The Balmoral. If you like quiet formal restaurants, with outstanding service and food, this is THE place to go. I must admit that it took us by surprise, in that it gave us one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had (on 7 continents, over 70 countries and over 30 years of travel).
