Established in 1963, Scotland's first vegetarian restaurant "The Salad Table" is still proudly serving fresh, wholesome and tasty food. Join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or visit our deli shop for some takeaway and a loaf from our onsite organic bakery. Our restaurant is set up cafeteria style, offering a relaxed and informal dining experience, featuring live music every night, it's perfect for families, young and old, and still run as Janet Henderson envisioned 53 years ago.

Yummy little brunch spot

Great place for vegetarians, vegans, and meat eaters alike. The food appeals to everyone and is fresh and tasty. Neat little spot on Hanover St. Would definitely recommend and return.

I visited Henderson's the 2 Feb with five friends and was disappointed with my meal. My starter of feta spinach parcels did not taste fresh as they were so dried out from possibly being under a hot plate for such a long time. My main course of crepe was more like a undercooked pancake swimming in a plate of sauce.... More

Great food guys. So refreshing to get good variety of vegan/veggie grub. We will definitely be back, next time we are through in Edinburgh.

After having boasted to my mum - about having a wonderful vegetarian restaurant nearby - I was sorely disappointed. The food wasn't fresh; salad tasted dry and the wedges I had for my starter tasted like they had been under the light for a long while. A big shame, I'm embarrassed and disappointed.

Great vegan food, cosy atmosphere, would definitely visit again. The haggis was gorgeous, the best meal we had in Edinburgh

I came here on a Saturday afternoon - minutes before the lunch rush came in... I was with my husband and friend and we ordered so much food! The vegan options were clearly marked with a V but I still managed to accidently order a vegetarian lasagne! It was delicious and I didn't send it back as I knew it... More

Henderson's is my one stop shop for my veggie and vegan food cravings in Edinburgh. Been here countless times with family, friends and on my own. Massive fan of the thai nut burger and the veg pakora is great. Wicked selection of fresh and inventive salads always inspires me to consign to a healthier way - everything is so yummy... More

You know how the old adage says it's a mistake to return to once-loved haunts cos they inevitably disappoint? And "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" is another oft-quoted "truism" isn't it? Well, neither apply to Henderson's!! I was a student in Edinburgh when the-then Henderson's Salad Table was in its infancy, and like most of my pals, I LOVED... More

Went past here on our way to our hotel ( Travelodge) and after a long train journey we wanted something light. So we came here and loved it! Although a tad pricey but it was worth every penny as the quality was excellent! as was the service. Perfect for those who are either vegan, vegetarian or wanted to eat healthy.... More

Hendersons was recommended to me so I stopped by for lunch. I was initially puzzled, as the main restaurant is self-service and didn't seem to have the menu that I had been told about, then I discovered the vegan part round the corner and had a superb meal there, extremely tasty, well-prepared and great value.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
