Reasonable vegetarian

I've been here a couple of times. The veggie burger with wedges is nice. The food is sound, not posh. The restaurant is like a large cafe.

What a gorgeous place. Great setting. We sat outside in the garden area. Having a mostly vegetarian diet, I quite often only have one option on a standard menu. Well this was an eye opener. Loads of choice, and unique dishes for a change (fed up of mushroom risottos!) I had a vegetarian haggis parcel with salad; even the salad... More

We've been to Henderson's many times over the last 15 years but these days it's largely out of habit. It is nice to go somewhere that only serves veggie food, but the presentation of food is frankly confusing - no menu, the food is at glass-fronted counters and it's not always clear what's what. The desserts had no prices that... More

First class restaurant serving quality vegan food and nothing but vegan food. Extensive and varied menu with good selection of freshly prepared and well presented dishes. The staff are welcoming, helpful and friendly and Henderson's seem to have hit on a winning formula so good that customers are more than happy to wait to get a table. I cannot praise... More

I hadn't been to Henderson's in years, and was really looking forward to a trip down memory lane. I wasn't disappointed! The layout is just the same as it was all those years ago, everything is just as it was, and I'm happy to say the food hasn't changed-still delicious after all these years. I found it quite emotional going... More

Vegetarian and Vegan, but you'd never know it. The dishes are all so delicious and savory, the non-vegetarians mob the place as well. Great atmosphere and music in the evenings. Must have been there 5 times in one week. Yum. Oh, and the desserts!

I've eaten regularly in Hendersons over the years - and sadly it doesn't get any better. The food is uninspiring ('risotto-stuffed tomatoes' were tomatoes stuffed with dried-out rice topped with congealed cheese); the coleslaw so tough one wonders whether the cabbage had retired on age grounds; and the staff almost universally bored and disinterested (verging on discourteous if asked to... I visited Henderson's for lunch and had a really simple but delicious salad and fresh juice. A nice health boost that tasted good! Good size portions for a really reasonable price. The place has a relaxed ambiance it's not far from the hustle and bustle of Prince's and Goeroge St. Well worth a visit if you're close.

The food at Henderson is good flavoursome and in huge portions. Always good value. There are rarely queues. An essential part of an Edinburgh visit.

This morning on my way to the Edinburgh Fringe I decided to stop at the Henderson salad cafe thinking that I could get a good quality brunch. Unfortunately my experience and the food itself were terrible. Firstly, I got very confused because no indication of what was on offer was displayed.A few members of staff were behind the counter but... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
