Great yummy healthy food

Loved the live music too. Have not visited for years . A little pricier than I remember but worth it and so different and great staff and service. My favourite was the cherry pie for dessert .

Henderson's is just a little walk from the bus stop on 94 Hanover Street. Doesn't look like much when you walk in but the food was delicious. This is a vegetarian restaurant with good choices.

I picked up takeaway food here several times for my husband and I and our toddler. They served excellent lentil lasagne, which he enjoyed. The toddler meal is great value as well. This is a ideal option for people who need to have dinner earlier, when other restaurants may not be open. And an excellent choice for vegetarians and veggie... More

The food here is excellent. It is completely vegetarian and most dishes are either vegan or have vegan options. The place is not at all posh and it is not full of posers as some veggie restaurants tend to be. The "restaurant" has, I'm told, live music every night. Not our thing since we like to chat over food. The... More

My husband found this place in a book ad, so we decided to try it for dinner on our first night in town. I was a little worried at first- the building smelled a bit like sweaty male body odor (probably the next table over) and the table was kind of sticky. But, we did end up enjoying some delicious... First time visiting and was seated at a rather small two seated wobbly table. Starter was very good so I was looking forward to my main of risotto, however it was very watery and quite a small plate full. Then the desert of vegan cheesecake had a very strange texture and taste and neither of us could manage to eat... More

I have been going to Henderson's for years and have always enjoyed the experience and food. However my most recent visit yesterday was a huge disappointment. I ordered the Veggie Chilli and Rice from the hotplate and my friend had a medium salad. My serving of chilli was very small and at £7.25 did not feel like great value for... More

The first and still main vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh. Good food, and good surrounding and reasonable wine. Recommended for an informal and relaxed meal

Visited for dinner Saturday night. Usually self service with extensive tasty vegetarian menu with hot and cold choices. On this occasion the tables were waiter service from a menu. Very very slow service My main course, grilled vegetables with satay sauce on pineapple rice, surprisingly served with warm veg and cold cold rice. I was reassured this was how the... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
