I have visited Henderson's since I was a student in Edinburgh many, many years ago. I try to come every time I visit Edinburgh. I was there about 2 weeks ago and enjoyed my lunch as much as ever. I am not a vegetarian but I just love the food particularly the salads. My husband also enjoys the food. The... More

We were Americans visiting Edinburgh for the first time. We were tired of restaurant food and felt we needed some veggies and salads. We aren't vegetarians, but we love good vegetarian food. We also needed a place with wifi, so we could catch up on our communications back home. The tour bus guide suggested Henderson's, we loved it and kept... More

I took a friend that has gluten and lactose intolerances and she was amazed by how much choice she had as it is usually quite hard for her to find anything that she can eat in restaurants. I had the veggie haggis and they were excellent, I loved the live piano music, the decoration of the restaurant and the attentive... More

Went for dinner here, unfortunately we did not book a table so we had to sit in the bistro rather than the restaurant, which lacked a bit of atmosphere!. The food was very nice and the staff were so freidnly. I had the veggie haggis which was fantastic. Would definitely go back!

We went to Henderson's Bistro in Thistle St and we really enjoyed it. The staff were great, the food was very "home made" and it was so nice to go somewhere which was just vegetarian. I do get fed up with going places and having just one choice. The premises were small and functional possibly not somewhere to go for... More

I've really enjoyed some of the salad takeaways during the summer but had a dish today, Mixed Mushroom Ragout for lunch and had wished the young lady had served me as her portions were highly generous, compared to the guy who served me! Also there was nothing mixed about the mushrooms, the dish comprised mainly of really quite hard potatoes,... More

Been there with my husband and we had a really good time. The service was quick and friendly and the food was excellent (maybe a bit too much garlic though). We had the risotto for starters and then the burger and a curry. Everything was wonderful! And the live music that evening made it really cosy and comfortable. A recommendation... More

Came here before when it was self-service in the evening but now they've switched to table service. The food was still good (veggie haggis is surprisingly nice) but the place is rather tired and grubby (especially the carpet!). £12 for a mains isn't that cheap - if they want to be a proper restaurant, they could at least invest some... Had the lasagne. For £6 it was a small piece and was not even properly heated through. Disappointing for a place with such a lofty reputation.

Recommended by tour bus guide. High quality, beautifully presented vegetarian/vegan food. Romantic atmosphere and friendly, helpful service. Although not vegetarian ourselves, delicious dishes. Roasted aubergine in plum and red wine sauce, with dauphinoise potatoes highly recommended.
