Excellent, authentic and good value

I love this quiet, tucked away little restaurant. The staff are lovely and hospitable, the food prompt and very good and the ambiance and atmosphere is very authentic. I highly recommend.

August 2015. Early evening 5pm'ish Thursday. We had pre-booked but the lady on the phone did not ask our name and so confidence was not high as we traveled up to Edinburgh. However, we need not have worried as the table was set for us and they were very understanding as one member was arriving late and we had already... More

I was asking for a take away, chicken chow mien. It took more than 30 mins to get the dish. While waiting, no one has come by to tell the progress. I did not know whether the order has went through or not. The food was not worth waiting at all. Having a take away, but no fork/spoon/chopstick and napkin.... More

It's always a good sign when a Chinese restaurant is packed with Chinese people and this was certainly the case. The food was gorgeous and I assume authentic! However the service was poor and, as someone else mentioned, we did feel rather unwelcomed. The food is so good that this is such a shame. I think if the service was... More

This is a very sad review to have to write but it is merited. I first visited Lee On some forty years ago and have been on and off since. They do say never go back as you will be disappointed. I did and I am. When we went in at 7pm on a Tuesday we were ushered to a... More

My wife and I went on a Tuesday night and it was packed with Chinese - no problem but Very noisy! The waitress however is hilarious - she obviously hates her job, white people and everything else in the world - no amount of polite conversation from us would cajole her into ANY acknowledgement of us at all! Food was... More

Although from the outside it doesn't appear inviting, venture in and consider yourself wrapped within the arms of the forbidden city itself. The food is authentic and superb and well worth the 30min walk from my hotel. I particularly like the hot & sour soup and mixed seafood chow mein. Jenny, the manager is always respectful, polite and attentive as... More

I have passed this Chinese for years and always thought it looked a bit uninviting but I popped in tonight for takeaway as when I looked in the window it was full of Chinese people(always a good sign!) Food was amazing all cooked freshly to order and home made including the wafer paper prawns and mini spring rolls. Their own... More

In March 2014, I submitted a rather negative review about a reservation that we had at the lee-on to celebrate a colleague's retirement. You may recall our staff went to decorate the restaurant about an hour before our booking and was met by work-men who said the restaurant was closed. We had a huge hassle finding somewhere else at such... More
