Cozy place

We had a nice evening here, and we did not experience any of the unfortunate things that previous reviews said about slow and unattentive service. The service was fine and so was the food and wine.

We chose to eat here based on trip advisor reviews and we weren't disappointed. There is a fab relaxed and comfortable atmosphere as soon as we walked in. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. The food was really delicious and there was lots of choice, including for the gluten free member of the group. We had a really enjoyable... More

On arrival, our group of five were seated in the quieter back room and were joined later by several Italian families, (always a good sign), the service was attentive but not too much so, and the interesting menu tempted us to starters, mains and coffees. Wine wasn't overpriced and everything, although simple classic Italian fare, was beautifully cooked. We would... More

First time visiting here although my friend had been a few times and highly recommended it I was not disappointed. Loved the informal and relaxing feel and the food was very tasty, next time will try a dessert instead of a starter just cannot manage three courses. My cocktail , a brandy alexander , was so so good and looking... More

Ate here on New Years Day. The choice of food was excellent. My husband and I shared a selection of toasted bread with toppings, really good. I had monkfish and my husband venison. We then shared a chocolate mousse. Every course was absolutely delicious, helped by lovely wine and attentive staff. 5*

Went for lunch with friends so good that my wife and returned next day for our Xmas eve lunch. Freshly cooked authentic Italian fare served by attentive staff. The fact that some dishes run out is a good indication of freshness, albeit a tad frustrating, but there are plenty of alternatives. I pass Asti regularly but first time there this... More

7 of us called in for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning before Christmas. The food was freshly made to order and we were able to find a table together. Staff were helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. We will definitely go back.

Dine here most years when we have a weekend Xmas shopping in Edinburgh. Never had a even an average meal. The venue is compact and bijou, the staff are great and the food likewise. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Four starters followed bread/olives/oil & balsamic/tapenade, and then four very hearty mains. Accompanied by two excellent bottles of wine (one red... More

After reading so many excellent reviews of this restaurant we were delighted to get in on a Saturday evening. The staff were pleasant, and it's a nice small space to eat in. Unfortunately they'd run out of two of the starters we ordered so we had to settle for second choices. Mine was really good, but my partner was disappointed... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
