I came here for dinner with a friend following a recommendation from a work colleague. It was amazing! We had booked a table and were very glad of this as the restaurant was constantly busy. The restaurant itself is lovely and clean, you could see the kitchen and the food being freshly prepared. The menu very helpfully had pictures of... More

We chose this restaurant on the strength of the previous trip advisor reviews. We were NOT disappointed. The food was fantastic and, forgive the cliche, each dish was a feast for the eyes and a piece of art in its own right. On top of that from the light tempura to the exquisite Dragon rolls it all tasted so good!... More

I have been to Kampai with my mother during our vacations... In fact, we are from São Paulo-Brasil, where you can find many incredible and excellent dishes, specially japanese food. However, we were completly suprised with the waiter's treatment... Really kind!! The food is unforgettable and we want to come back to Edinburgh only to have a chance to eat... More

We can't get enough of Kampai! We love it. The miso aubergine is to die for, as well as the rest of the menu! Can't wait to go back!

Great place, great food. The grilled aubergine is amazing. This food is every bit as good as Sushiya's, but Kanpai is definitely the more formal of the two restaurants. This is the one to come to if you want something a bit more private and relaxed.

I've been a fair number of times since my last review. The quality of the food in this place is not only good but also very consistent. They have a formula that works, offering an approachable izakaya style Japanese cuisine. The service, in spite of the natural turnover in staff, remains delightful. And the prices are friendly, too.

My partner and I visited here for dinner early in the evening, we had not booked ahead but managed to get a table without waiting - would recommend booking ahead as everyone who arrived after us had to wait, or were turned away due to not having a booking. The service was very fast, and staff were really friendly and... More

We cannot fault this restaurant! I've been a good few times for dinner but yesterday was the first for lunch and it was every bit amazing!! Grilled Aubergine, Octopus balls, tempura squid, rainbow roll and the soft shell crab roll has not to be missed! Anything else is a bonus! The staff are brilliant and so friendly, service when we've... More
