Really excellent sushi, great menu, lots of choice. Very busy even mid-week so probably best to book. Grindlay Street isn't lovely, but the restaurant is gorgeous inside so be brave!

Staff need some training on how to seat the restaurant. I requested a table and the waitress told me 'you can't have a table because I need it in an hour and a half' Even when I explained we were catching a train in an hour that we would be fast she still didn't understand how it could be done.... Very nice Japanese restaurant and super friendly, cute Japanese staff. I have eaten here a few times both as part of a couple and with my children and it is consistently good. It is always busy so make sure that you book ahead.

Probably the best sushi I've had in the UK. Fresh well made maki rolls. The sashimi salad was light and refreshing. The dumplings were light and very tasty. Small place, good service.

On a Hot evening in Edinburgh I went here with my daughter who has spent many years in the far east to experience what she describes as Sushi as they serve in Japan. It was just lovely. We shared 'Rainbow Roll', 'Kanpai Special Roll', 'Soft Shell Crab Roll', 'Tokyo Roll' & 'Dumplings' and all for a very reasonable £36 that... More

I've been here a couple of times in the past month, and both times I have left Kanpai ready to schedule my next visit (which I hope is soon!) The quality of the fish, the presentation, and the staff make this restaurant a must visit if you love sushi and are in Edinburgh. It is a bit off the beaten... More

Great little sushi place just behind the Usher hall. This was our second visit and once again we were not disappointed, food quality and choice was excellent, however we did feel a little bit rushed as the food came very quickly (surprisingly as it was all made fresh). We had booked and it was just as well, lesson learned from first... The best sashimi we've had outside Tokyo, and excellent grilled eel nigiri. It's hidden away, but busy on Sunday. We loved it.

We happened by this perfect little sushi restaurant and stopped in for lunch. The food was so delicious - tasty and also very beautifully prepared and presented. I recommend the dragon roll especially, but everything we had was just lovely. Highly recommended.

Nice small welcoming room in an out of the way place for a tourist to find. Saki was top notch. Good and interesting sushi specials as well as the old standbys. Try the Dragon roll and Tokyo roll. The Kanpai Special was a disappointment. All fresh and good sushi. If you can find the place, well worth the visit
