Awsome

Googled Sushi in Edinburgh and this place came up decided to go when it opened as had to catch the 19;00 train. Was surprised to see a Q at 17:05, surely it cannot be that good can it ? It really was by the time we left all tables were taken and people being turned away. The food is so... read more

I have been to Kanpai yesterday with a friend. Although it was a Tuesday evening, we risked not to get a table. So better to book! Despite that, the food arrived quickly and was delicious and beautifully presented. It is quite expensive but definitely quality. And plenty of vegetarian options to choose from! However I've found the place lacks a... More

Really great sushi, presentation and taste were exceptional. Service was quick and friendly. Price was fair given quality. We learnt that the fish is directly imported to the uk with no port stop overs adding to the freshness. Will visit Edinburgh again just because of this restaurant.

We tried to book a table for Kanpai a before our trip to Edinburgh as the reviews were excellent and we expected it to be popular. We rang at least 5 times over one week, all after 6PM and the phoneline said they were closed until 5PM, disappointing! Luckily when we arrived at around 7PM we were able to get... More

with a wide range of finely cooked and prepared Japanese food on offer, Kanpai doesn't disappoint Sushi lovers. The quality of the food, both in taste and preparation are second-to-none. Kanpai is a premium experience, and not a visit to your local big sushi chain. And with this comes the price, although not overly expensive, it can creep up on... More

1. Service - simply great, professional, friendly - fast 2 Food - just great, we ate only one thing that we didn't like but a matter of taste 3. Value for money - average. we spent 80 quids for 2 without anything special but i believe it is fine for this type of fresh food Summary - highly recommeended

Not having had much Sushi we were taken to Kanpai in Edinburgh thinking it would be like Yo Sushi, not a chance this was completely different, no conveyor belt but and excellently illustrated menu which let you see exactly what you were ordering and all in the different categories. The staff were very helpful and they bring out the dishes... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
