Visited Kanpai with my husband after checking out the tripadvisor reviews. This restaurant puts the likes of Bonsai to shame. Of course it is more expensive and a more intimate setting so targeting perhaps a different market but it is well worth the extra cost. You will not be disappointed. As a vegetarian there were excellent options for me and... More

From start to finish the service and customer care was exceptional with staff attentive and only too happy to explain and recommend. The food was totally wonderful and I would urge people to give this place a try. The ambience is calming and overall the experience was very satisfying on every level. It is up there with my favourites in... More

Oh just excellent. Restaurant is much bigger than Sushiya... easier to get table, because food is excellent book early. They are open in launch time 12:30-14:30. same experience more free tables.

I took my dad on a whim and a prayer. Managed to get a table and it lived up to the expectations. The service was pretty good but the food was clearly the star of the show. The best sushi I've had in the UK so far. Absolutely fantastic, well worth a visit. Book though because it does get very... More

Being a sushi fan and struggling to find a good Sushi restaurant in Scotland, I saw this one in Edinburgh and thought we would try it. The food was generally excellent and the Sushi/Sashimi was great. Only thing that let us down was when we arrived, tables arriving after us were being served and we had to ask for the... More

Being from New York, I had a very difficult time finding a good sushi restaurant in Edinburgh. After four years, my friend took me to this place, and the sushi was definitely delicious! The prices were a bit high, but the food was excellent. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for good sushi in Edinburgh!

I took my partner who is Japanese to this restaurant as a birthday surprise. The food we had here was amazing, and he exclaimed that it was just like high quality restaurants in Japan or fresh from the fish markets (and I agree). We had the special sashimi combo, which was beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. We also had some... More

As we have been to Japan on several occasions we are addicted to Japanese food and we feel very disappointed by the quality of Japanese restaurants in Scotland. Although there are several restaurants that are supposedly Japanese the food quality is poor or gimmicky. However, Kanpai is a real find and well worth visiting of you like or you want... More

The food was very expensive and the quality of the sushi was just OK. Also, we were committed to one type of dish without much variety. For instance, the rainbow roll had 8 pieces and was 11 pounds. This was for one person. Why not have a variety? Not recommended.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
