After an enjoyable but tiring day in Edinburgh we found Gurkha (Nepalese and Indian food) by chance. Definitely one of the best meals we've had in a restaurant in a while. Tasty food and good service at a very reasonable price. Would certainly go back if we're ever in Edinburgh again.

Visited early evening one Tuesday in June. Sole diner traveling on business, love a curry and have visited many Indian restaurants. Restaurant was fairly quiet, certainly no need to book, but it was only about 7pm on a tuesday. Long thin restaurant with pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Not the biggest choice of menu but happy to cook you something not on... More

Me and my partner were at Gurkha last night. It was quite busy. We were seated by very pleasant staff and offered drinks instantly. We ordered some steamed basmati rice which was very well done. A couple of garlic naans which were delicious and 2 curries to share. I ordered the chicken Kerahi and my boyfriend ordered the Bhoteko Khasi... More

This was a really good curry. If you go, make sure you try the lime pickle that comes with the poppadoms, it's incredibly good.

excellent food and beautiful presentation. Staff very pleasant and attentive but without being over the top.The restaurant was very busy when we arrived at six o'clock and stayed busy until we left, which I feel is a sign of a good place.

Not a very original title for this review but it says it all. My first trip to a Gurkha restaurant (as recommended by a work colleague) and we had a thoroughly good evening out. Delicious food and excellent service, all at a very reasonable price.

Popped in for an "early" dinner. The food is absolutely lovely. Sadly, the service is very, very slow. 25 minutes to take our drinks order, twenty five minutes to come back for our mains order. If you are in no hurry then this is a great place to eat.

Delicious food and ok service. We had the vegetable monos to start- they were great and very authentic, and we each got a main. My Saag Paneer was perhaps one of the best Saag Paneers I've ever had- and I'm desi! All my traveling companions also enjoyed their food. The servings are massive tho- share a few mains. Highly recommend... More

We have visited this restaurant several times, and have never been let down. On this occasion they accommodated our group of 20 family members at the last minute on a Saturday evening, catered for us brilliantly with an excellent selection of meals, and service that was exceptionally friendly. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that likes spicy food, whether... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
