The Manager Mr kumar he calls himself is the worst of the people as a manager for a café or a hotel. Had gone there first time and the food was ok and having a thought that the food will be ok the second day went again to Gurkha café. To my surprise this time was greeted by the manager... More

Tasty food, great service and warm ambience. Initially somewhat dubious about how different the menu was from any other Indian restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by how unique the food was. The spices were like nothing I have ever had. Also enjoyed a mocktail called the Kathmandu Temple - highly recommend it! The place was heaving but we were seated... More

The food and service were amazing here. I had the chicken shashlik that can sometimes be dry but not here. It also came with a lovely sauce. My partner has a madras which was just the right type of spicy. The chef came over to see if our food was ok. You must try the gurkha beer!

The service was great, the people ifriendly and the food was better than anything I've ever eaten in Amsterdam, i'm not a local, and still I've eaten here four times now. This is my go-to Indian restaurant in Edinburgh.

Ate here on 19 December 2014 as part of a group of 18 on a works night out. Firstly we received a very warm welcome from the staff who were also excellent all evening. Our drink orders were taken whilst we were left to review the food menu. I have to recommend the Gurkha beer, a big 660ml bottle with... More

I've eaten many indian 'takeaway' foods but this was head and shoulders above the rest. I had the 'Gurkha Chicken Special' and it was absolutely delicious. The sauce was thick and creamy and had endless amount of flavour, the chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. The place itself was a bit quiet, but it was a thursday night and... More

They had regular Indian and Nepalese dishes. I went Nepalese. I had the mo mo, little chicken dumplings, they came with a fabulous spicy sauce (tomato with sesame seeds according to the waiter), followed by fish in an even more amazing spicy creamy sauce. I recommend this restaurant. Delicious. Could've eaten it twice. Good service too.

Nepalese & Indian - a bit different to a normal indian - absolutely lovely! Service was also excellant. Place looks nothing from the outside, but well worth a visit and reasonably priced for a capital city.

The flavours in the curries we ate at the gurkha cafe were very original, and really tasty. Not to full of chilli and overpowering (unless you order a hot one!) We've been three times on each of our visits to Edinburgh, it's one we don't miss!
