Vive La France!

Great little French restaurant in the West End. Great, friendly service, good food and very reasonable prices. What more do you want? Go!

Wanted to go for dinner, but restaurant doesn't exist any more. We looked for an other restaurant and found one Indian restaurant accross the street.

Made a booking for early Friday evening in April without really researching reviews. Was attracted by 3 course set price offer. Welcome and service from a smiling and helpful waitress did not dispel the sinking feeling that we had chosen badly for the impromptu meal out. The decor is appalling. Peeling wallpaper held in place onto the wall by drawing... More

Great location, minutes from Haymarket. Fresh, yummy croissant usually still warm from the oven to enjoy with lovely coffee. Owner is extremely friendly, welcoming and attentive. A big thumbs up from me!

Ate here with 2 friends on a hectic, post rugby international Saturday night. Chaos reigned outside, inside was a haven of peaceful tranquillity .Although they could only give us an hour to eat due to reservations, the food was served efficiently with no sense of being hurried. The food was absolutely excellent, smoked fish platter and chicken casserole for me.... More

My son and I popped in on a Saturday night out of the rain. The menu was authentically French and although we waited rather a long time considering the restaurant was not full, the waitress was friendly. My main meal of chicken came accompanied by frozen/caned carrots and peas which always makes me think, cheap, so the chicken will be... More

Been here twice because it is generally nicer and less packed than the two nearby Starbucks. First time had a passable panini and a cappuccino, so decided to go again with a friend when I was in the area. This time we both had cakes, which were pretty decent (though looked like they were all bought in). However this time... More

I came the first time because my English school was very close! Two kinds of price, the first one, for the take away is really cheap, but if you want eat in the restaurant it's better an other place! 1 filter coffee and 1 piece of Millionaire chocolate is 5 £! (1,50 £ take away).

I never tire of this wee gem and make a point of going there every time I am in Haymarket. The food is great if you like authentic French restaurant fare - and I do.

Never had such an awful lunch! My partner I decided to pop in for a quick bite to eat. I decided on a crepe "chefs own special recipe" at £3.40 and my partner a hot chocolate. The service was so slow it was unbelievable! The crepe came and all it was was one already made out of a packet that... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
