We had just returned from a long walk round the area of our hotel in Edinburgh, The Salisbury, and where quite hungry! So decided to try the hotel restaurant, located in the basement. Accessible from the hotel, and where breakfast is served also. Nice simple decor, and a friendly welcome, as it was late and near their closing time! I had steak,... More

We really enjoyed our meal at Cassis for our last evening in Edinburgh. Staff friendly and helpful. Prices reasonable . Our starters were both delicious ,scallops and smoked salmon. For the main course my husband had the roasted cod and I had pheasant both beautifully cooked and presented. We shared the Gourmet Dessert board which was quite amazing ( photo... More

Tried Cassis for the first time - prior to concert at nearby Queen's Hall. Absolutely delighted. Beef cheeks quite special and creme brûlée served in traditional shallow dish rather than ramekin. My guests equally delighted. Very friendly while professional staff. Will be back!

The restaurant was recommended by a friend and didn't let us down. Service was very friendly. The dessert platter was out of this world. Will definitely eat here again.

We never expected to have such stunning food in this little restaurant that is attached to The Salisbury Hotel but it was wonderful. Beautifully cooked and served and the wine list was good too. Lovely friendly hosts too. A real hidden gem!

I dined here on a Saturday lunchtime and could not fault the place at all. It's slightly out of the way up in Newington but I'd recommend going after a nice walk up Arthur's Seat. Waitress was very friendly. Food (soup and mackerel) lovely and fresh/tasty. Really good value too compared to the expensive mediocre eateries on George St.

Another delicious lunch was enjoyed by four of us. Service was especially friendly and efficient, Food still very nicely cooked and presented and still very good value for money. Chef looked into dining area to check that all was well. Over the years since it first opened there has been no noiticeable decrease in the enjoyment of the overall experience.

Don't get me wrong - the wine and service are fantastic and the funky basement atmosphere is spot on. But the food - the presentation, the flavors, the diversity... This small menu is sure to delight. We enjoyed among other things escargot, mussels, lamb, pheasant and insanely delicious desserts. The dodo here is a joy to savor!

Wonderful find. Small family run Cafe with interesting food prepared with care. The menu is very eclectic and the dishes are an interesting assortment of flavors that could easily go very wrong but in this case the chef demonstrates his talent by finding a composition and balance of flavors that work well. The decor is simple and the staff is... More
