The best meals we had in Edinburgh

We ate at Cafe Cassis twice -- the first time because it was recommended and the second time because the food was so good we wanted more! Everything we had was wonderful. The staff was so kind and helpful. When I asked if the mussels were spicy hot she said not too much but if we preferred the... read more

Went for Sunday lunch. The food was somewhat disappointing - the starter of grilled goats cheese salad was actually all bread with a smear of goats cheese on top. We asked if it was possible to have the goats cheese salad without bread, and were told no, and we indicated we would just remove the bread when it came, no... More

Good food and a quality veggie option. The cooked breakfast is good too but there's plenty to satisfy those preferring a continental breakfast.

We ordered buttery dishes and weren't disappointed. The emphasis here is on traditional French, but the Asian-style mussels were also excellent. The baked Alaska dessert could have been more baked, but otherwise we enjoyed everything.

Booked based on TA reviews and so glad we did. Great food, lovely dining room and staff. Family run and you can tell, the welcome and service was genuine, relaxed and still professional. You would definitely need to book for Friday and Saturday nights as it was full the night we ate. Other half still raving about it, especially the... More

We just arrived in Edinburgh the day before, following 24 hours of travel from the U.S. via Toronto and London. Cafe Cassis was recommended by our B&B host at 23 Mayfield Garden, just a short walk away. The meal was excellent. All the food, appetizers and main course, was served piping hot and delicious! Prices are quite reasonable. Service was... More

In order to mark a small celebration my partner and I went to Cafe Cassis for lunch on 17th April. We were attracted to the two course £9.95 Market menu (add a 3rd course for £1.95) which we had seen on on their website. Cafe Cassis is a French restaurant and the menu comprised a mouth watering selection of dishes,... More

we visited Edinburgh last week and booked this restaurant based on Tripadvisor's reviews, and Boy! were we not disappointed. The staff, waitress in a blue dress, and she knows who she was to the owner were friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was in a basement of a hotel but do not be put off. The food was to die for... There were roadworks very close to this restaurant when I visited. It is in the basement of a hotel building, a bit tucked away. I had the pre-theatre menu, which includes a glass of wine. I had the mushroom and cheese crepe, the catch of the day (a medley of fish on the evening that I visited) and bread and... More

Have been to this great little restaurant about 5 times now and felt I should review it. Went yesterday with a friend for lunch and although good before, I think this was the best ever! My friend had the liver parfait (of which I had a little share using the complimentary bread basket) and then we both chose a (new... More
