We are an independent family run and family friendly cafe and bakery. Freshly made is our hallmark....everything is made daily including soups, salads, quiches, pizza, bread and cakes. Uncompromising in our coffee beans supplied by Artisan Roast and our loose leaf teas from Pekoe Tea. We serve up one of the best breakfasts and all day Weekend brunches in town and are famed for our Eggs Benny. We feel that customers with food intolerances should not have to put up with bland choices and pride ourselves in creating interesting and tasty cakes, bread, soups etc. that can be enjoyed by vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs alike.

Somewhat disappointed

Visited this cafe yesterday with a friend after wanting to go for a while. We were greeted at the door and sat at a table by the window. No attempt from the waitress to engage in conversation, ask us how we were etc. Service overall was average, nothing that would make me remember it or want to tip... read more

We stayed a a hotel just down the road and were looking for an alternative to eating in. Loundons is a family owned business with a modern design feel. The food was great, service attentive and in all, enjoyable. Highly recommended based on our experience there.

Friendly modern cafe with every type of breakfast available . Our party of five tried pretty much the whole range and enjoyed it all. Only quibble was thehomemade beans were not a big hit. Not the cheapest meals but worth a visit . The automatic orange juicer is fun to watch. Handily there is a taxi rank right outside the... More

I've used this cafe off and on over 3 years during which time they have changed the service style and layout. You would think it was now optimised but surprisingly it isn't. Today there is a sign at the entrance telling you to wait to be seated by a member of staff. Even if it is quiet you may have... More

Beautiful veggie breakfast. Hubby had the full breakfast. Served with homemade beans, which were absolutelydelish. The gluten free bread was a light as a feather. It's not cheap at £9.95 for each breakfast. However the price reflects the quality and taste. This is by no means a greasy cafe. .Will certainly be back.

Popped in for a cool drink whilst the rest of Edinburgh basked in the sunshine - we shouldn't have bothered! Of the 3 soft drinks we asked for all were sold out! Eventually, the kids managed to order something but it wasn't what they were looking for! I was disappointed to find that I couldn't order clotted cream with my... More

I have been here a few times and the food is always amazing, from brunch to lunch to cakes, absolutely faultless. The service is quite slow, have waited 45 mins before over the lunch period when it's busy but worth the wait! The waiting staff are very friendly, however the barista was very rude when I asked for a warmer... More

We nipped in here for a quick cake and a coffee. We were pleased to find a large range of Gluten Free cakes which were nice and due to it's large windows it's a nice place to sit on a sunny day. It's a large, airy space which is nice but when it's not busy it can feel a touch... More

Excellent breakfast on Sunday. Eggs Benedict were lovely, really nice coffee and attentive staff. Modern airy premises with a bit of buzz.

I've read mixed reviews about Loudons, but I really enjoyed my experience here. I visited for breakfast with my boyfriend. We were seated right away, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The service was medium speed, but acceptable considering how busy it was. The place had a light and cheerful atmosphere. The decor was modern, inviting and chic. For... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
