Nice spot for lunch

I'd read that the Cullen skink was good so wanted to try it out. It was yummy indeed. I went for a large portion as the waitress said the starter size was quite small but I think I would've been okay with the small as I couldn't finish it :)

The formula is simple: friendly and efficient service, good food and relaxed atmosphere. Just as good for a catch up with a girlfriend over a bottle of rose or lunch with my young family. Lots of charming little touches from the tomato shaped ketchup container, a lemon for the hand wash and a selection of books for children. Very clean... More

A perfect lunch - amazing food, wonderful staff, beautiful decor and a very friendly atmosphere. As a family group of 6 (ranging from Grandma to 5 year old grandson) it's not always easy to please everyone - we all left with full stomachs, happy faces and a wish to return again soon. Great specials board and wonderful cake selection. Superb

Went for lunch during the festival and I had pork cooked three ways on recommendation of the proprietor, my view it could give Tom Kitchin a run for money and value! We will be back, great food, friendly service and nice ambiance!

Dinner with friends in a pleasant café. Decor is a throw back to a bygone era but clean and cheerful. The food is basic and not up to any recognisable restaurant standard as is the wine list. Service friendly but inept.

You can judge a cafe by the quality of its croque monsieur. It was the best I have ever had and I returned for a second time, just to make sure. Need I say more? Service is charming and prompt. The menu is engagingly varied for a cafe. Food excellent. It's a lovely, airy space - a great neighbourhood find.... More

Food is very good, but what makes this special is that this cafe/bistro pays attention to people's needs. I was particularly impressed by its lavatories - not only are they exceptionally clean, but they also provide a child-seat for toddlers, and free nappies for emergencies. The effect of this is that even stressed out parents can chill out and enjoy... More

This small family run cafe is located by the Water of Leith in the Canonmills area of Edinburgh. We've eaten here a few times and the food is uniformly excellent with an interesting range of soups, sandwiches and main courses. There's also a tempting array of home made cakes. The service is friendly and informal yet very efficient. Customers are... More

Our decision to visit this bistro was based entirely on the amazing reviews on here. I have to say it really wasn't that special. It was just ok. It wasn't unpleasant, the staff were quite nice but it wasn't great. The Cullen Skink was the one stand out dish for us, all the others were a little disappointing. Disappointed and... More

We visited Water of Leith Cafe Bistro having walked out of a nearby organic cafe that appeared to be in a state of chaos. What a relief it was to chance upon this pleasant bistro instead! Initial impressions were very positive. The decor is simple, unfussy and tastefully done. Much like the food. The staff were pleasant, friendly, well presented... More
