I had a wonderful 3 course meal in this delightful restaurant this evening. Even at the height of the festival, staff were attentive ( although probably exhausted!) and knowledgable about each course. Nothing was too much trouble and the very enthusiastic, young head chef came to advise us personally about which dishes we might choose. The food was beautifully presented,... More

The restaurant was pleasant enough, my partner had Bouillabaisse. Unfortunately the waitress didn't have good enough language skills to describe this dish. Expecting to be served this dish in the traditional French manner. We were surprised to see a niggardly amount of fish and shell fish put on a plate, and a small jug of sauce accompanying it. This would... More

We were back in Edinburgh but couldn't stay at the hotel this time around as we booked to late but we returned to dine with a couple of friends who stay locally and have never heard of the hotel or restaurant. They certainly have now and I'm sure they'll be back. We had a fantastic evening here with some fantastic... More

I ate a full three courses at this restaurant and I was blown away by the standard of the food. The service was mediocre but that was soon forgotten when the food arrived. The risotto was the best I have ever eaten. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I even asked to send my complements to the chef, a cliché... More

Food is good, rooms are well laid out and appointed. The food for the price was reasonable, nothing to shout about but I've had worse in better hotels. If you like easy food with a good flair you'll enjoy Ten Hill Place. Yes I'd go back.

We had a voucher which we bought to try somewhere new. We were phoned early evening to ask if we could put our time back half an hour as there was a large party expected at the same time as our booking. We had no problem with this and on arrival were made very welcome by the management. Our food... More

I bought a voucher for this place thinking that the local hotel must be trying to branch out to the locals. On first entrance this place was nice and brightly decorated. Our waiter came to serve us and for some odd reason he seemed to be nervous and stuttery which later proved to be an inexperienced waiter. For starter I... More

Restaurant was a little cool so they brought an oil filled electric heater. No problems about which menu to order from(wine bar is supposed to be separate) as they will mix any combo of dishes from the two.

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
