Enjoyable evening with friends.

I have dined in The Indian Cavalry Club several times and the food is always very enjoyable. The service is attentive and efficient but there is just a bit of lack of atmosphere. Perhaps it's because my last visit was a Sunday evening bug I just felt it needed to be a bit more lively.

Had 3 friends up from London for the rugby,as usual,Curry, was the preferred choice of meal. Having been here a few times before and never been disappointed, it was the first port of call, it was very busy last night.but Johnny Ahmed and his boys did very well.We had a vegetarian in the company, and was slightly concerned for him,but... Absolutely horrified by the staff and the food. Both my starter and main were cold and flavourless, I had two black hairs in one of the meals, my friend also had a hair in one of her meals. The worst curry I have ever had. The staff were quite frankly rude and had no manners, having booked a table for 7:30... More

We visitied this restaurant on the advice of a work colleague who said that if we came to edinburgh we had to try the food here. Having now eaten here, i can see why! Great choice of traditional dishes as well as it being reasonably priced overall. The staff were incredibly friendly, with the manager Johnny thanking us for the... More

Lacking a bit of ambience here, but the food is OK. Not outstanding, not wow but serves a purpose. If you've never tried this restaurant then give it a go. I will be back in 2016 for a second opinion.

Hi there! Thanks for leaving us a review. Our chefs always strive to deliver excellent dishes using nothing but the finest ingredients. Should a dish ever fall short of our diner's expectations, we'd happily exchange it for something else on the menu, more to our diner's tastes. When you visit in 2016, we will crank up the ambience to the... More

The Cavalry Club is a long establish Edinburgh Indian restaurant. They are on Edinburgh's tram route between Haymarket Station and Shandwick place. We popped in for snack at lunchtime and ordered prawn puree, potato dosa and onion bagia. Simple most Indian restaurants serve these but not like the Cavalry Club. Each was a masterpiece on it's own. 10 out of... More

We got recommended this place by our hotel as we found it difficult to find anywhere open on Christmas Day night and what a delight it was. The staff were friendly, polite and very smart in a fantastic building. Ordered a jalfrezi, garlic nan with afghan rice and have to admit it was fantastic. My wife also was very impressed... More

I had walked past this place for years and thought it was going to be a top end Indian restaurant, and I was disappointed. As an example,I'm a big tandoori fan, having it in most Indian restaurants I've been to, however I've never had it served with tinned peas. Over all the experience was just OK.

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. Our award-winning chefs use only the freshest and finest ingredients to prepare all dishes. We are suprised to hear that there were tinned peas served at our restaurant as we have never ordered tinned peas. Having searched the kitchen personally, I can confirm that are no rouge tins on site!... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
