Atmosphere all the way.

A smallish restaurant, semi basement, in Hanover Street. A lovely happy atmosphere, fun staff and excellent food. Would highly reccommend it. And the price was very reasonable too!

Went as a family group of 7. Three had a pizza that was almost impossible to cut yet they weren't burnt. Assumed it was badly made dough. My wife had the prawn cocktail to start. It had a sharp unpleasant vinegary taste to the marie rose sauce. I had Pollo alla Valdostana which is bread crumbed chicken breast topped with... More

My husband and I visited on 9th April, 2015 and really enjoyed our visit. The meal was very good quality. Pasta superb and steak was cooked to perfection. Really good service and staff made you feel really welcome. Would definitely recommend for food and atmosphere.

Had a lovely family meal, although it is a very noisy restaurant so conversation was difficult at times. The menu was varied, with specials. There were limited dairy-free desserts, and we enquired at the start of the meal if there was sorbet and they very kindly made some for us. Staff were helpful and friendly, service was good and the... More

My fiancé and I went here for an evening meal after seeking out a nice Italian to go to on the Web. The staff were very friendly and there some little touches that really make this place a great place to come. Little things like not charging us for limoncello at the end of the meal. The food was good.... More

We were expecting a quality, authentic Italian meal given that the restaurant is run by Italians and the 4.5 stars rating on trip advisor. Unfortunately it was anything but authentic and the whole experience was disappointing! To begin with, half of the dishes on the menu would not be found in Italy - who's heard of pasta al haggis!?. The... More

The best italian food we've ever had (including from Italy!). It was presented beautifully and tasted amazing! The service was impeccable, we were made to feel very special. We would recommend 100%

Really nice food, great value for money with friendly staff, and a waiter who likes to sing-along to the abba greatest hits CD that seemed to be playing.

Mmmmm I have to say I've just read the recent reviews and I have to say this restaurant is a lovely restaurant, staff were friendly and very accommodating. Calamari, prawn cocktail and the steaks were fab, proper hand cooked chips and big portions. I was stuffed after two courses so cannot comment on the desserts. They did look nice though.... More

La Laterna used to be one of our regular lunch-stops over the years. We returned last week after a period of absence only to discover that Toni has moved on and that the restaurant is under new management. And it shows. Dirty, untidy toilets (with no hot water too boot), poor food, indifferent staff. This restaurant used to be heaving... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
