Excellent little Italian

This is only a small restaurant but the food is excellent and the portions are large. The staff are extremely friendly and the service is great.Very well recommended. Suggest you book if it is a weekend as the restaurant does get busy

Nice little Italian restaurant. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Enjoyed the authentic cooking. Most enjoyable evening.

staff were very friendly and attentive. Calamari starter was greasy and tough. Perhaps the oil had been used too often. My husband's sword fish was inedible. The fish was definitely "off".However the waiter did not argue and replaced it with a plate of very average penne with vegetable and cream sauce.Trip advisor have awarded this restaurant with a certificate of... Basil Fawlty runs a tighter ship and judging by the 3 tables in this erstwhile busy restaurant, this ship is sinking. The basil on my pizza was faulty, black and withered in places, the mozerella and raw tomatoes emitted juices which soaked through the base and turned it back to dough. The waiter tried to explain this was the effect... More

At the end of a long day we stumbled across La Lanterna. We were very pleased we did. The walls are covered in black & white photographs, there is a small bar. The menu has everything you would want. Traditional meals with a modern twist. Staff attentive. Generous portions and good wine list. Something to suit all tastes and budgets.

This place is stuck in the 70s -- in the best way possible. No fads, no fussy presentation, nothing in the way of foams, gels or soils -- why mess with brilliance? A warm, accommodating welcome (we arrived early on a very busy Saturday but were immediately seated nonetheless) was followed by the best mussel dish I've ever had: fat,... More

La Lanterna was recommended to me by a colleague who raved about the place. My boyfriend and I visited on a Friday night and I was really looking forward to it - mostly due to the many good trip advisor reviews. First impressions were good, staff seemed really friendly. I ordered a strawberry daiquiri and this was pleasant enough. For... More

The best restaurant in Scotland Edinbrough as far as service and food. Also the music was perfect. Especially if you are from the states. Waiting for Desert can't wait! :) Diane

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
