A definite if you want to try a different culture

Food is good. Price is great especially for Edinburgh. No alcohol sold but you can take in your own bottle . Cater for gluten free without issue. Locals appeared to eat here which is always a good sign.

Brilliant find! We had the Meze for 2, more than enough food. Meats were cooked to perfection, the staff were helpful and attentive. The atmosphere had a great buzz, we will return

Lovely restaurant with great service and nice food which was plentiful (we had 3 starters and wraps and were full) the restaurant was fairly quiet when we went for our meal before going to the theatre. WIne glasses were out which took the awkwardness out of the BOYB. This is tucked in the NW side of the square no more... More

I first visited Beirut around 3 years ago and since have returned some 30-40 times. The food is consistently of a very high quality and the prices very reasonable. The atmosphere can vary from quiet/relaxing to buzzing/vibrant dependant on the day or time of year. The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to answer any questions.. Even sometimes giving... More

Great for a casual meal with authentic food! It was nice to have a meal with my vegetarian friend without her being left with a limited menu- which often happens. Amazing value for money regardless of the fact it is bring your own bottle.

Visited here about five times now and every visit was excellent. The restaurant is understated but classy and cosy and the stafff are welcoming, friendly and helpful. The waiters take your order in their memory rather than writing it down which is quite impressive and so far with no mistakes ! Beware though as it is tucked away in the... More

Really good food, and very busy little place. Love that you can bring your own bottle, and generally the staff are excellent. One of my favourite places.

Having extensive experience of Lebanese Cuisine, I am spoilt - so I am likely to be over critical of any Lebanese Restaurant. Having said this, Beirut is a very good restaurant although some of the dishes do match up to the very high standards of top international Lebanese Cooking - but then prices are not at this level either! So... More

Ate here last weekend with a friend and as we had a lot to catch up in I wanted somewhere with good food so we could spend time chatting. Although the the restaurant was very busy with a wedding party and other large groups we were seated in a cosy corner and served quickly. We chose some humus to start... More

Staying in Southside & Holyrood

Neighborhood Profile
Southside & Holyrood
Many of Edinburgh’s student hangouts gather around university buildings in Southside, the sort of neighborhood that supports a long string of second-hand shops and eateries serving ethnic food for just a few pounds. In August the student population is replaced by vast numbers of boisterous visitors here for the Fringe, Edinburgh’s world-class comedy and arts festival which headquarters itself here. Flanking Southside are two great parks. The Meadows is a vast flat and sporty space where football, rugby, tennis, cricket, croquet, and golf often all take place side by side. Kids in its big playgrounds add to the joyful noise. Far bigger and much wilder, Holyrood Park extends to the east and provides a real hike up Arthur’s Seat, but the district is best known as the site of Scotland’s Parliament and its premier Royal Palace—and their steady stream of sightseers.
