Prompt service and good food

We dined here on a Friday night and the restaurant was full, to the extent that there was little space between tables and each time a waiter passed, my chair was kicked. Apart from this minor nuisance though, the meal was very good. Service was very swift (we have been before and have always been... read more

I have been to the republic of Ireland recently and always try and match what is served up at Omars but i fail every time. If you go to Edinburgh then you have to go to Omars, it is reasonably priced but the welcome, service and food is second to none.

We have come from Australia to visit Edinburgh after 8 years and decided to return to a restaurant we knew well from the past. However, it has clearly changed its attitude to its customers. When we complained that our table was rocking and drinks spilling you would have thought that we asked to buy their children. the response was downright... More

Went here for my dad's birthday with the family and was disappointed. After all the hype the restaurant receives and all the reviews I have read I thought it would be much nicer than it was. The staff were so friendly and the service was great, the food was average and didn't taste as good as I thought it would... More

Lovely restaurant with a great atmosphere. Staff are attentive and service even though they were busy was very prompt. There were 6 of us and we all had different dishes and we could not pick the best between them as they were all great. Prices were reasonable too.

Almost next to the Hilton Grosvenor this Indian is superb. Its recently being refurbished and looks very smart. Although it was full when we went they run a very slick operation and the whole meal time was just right. The food was of a good quality and plenty of it. I would thoroughly recommend.

We have visited this beautiful restaurant a lot. Sometimes twice a week when we lived in Edinburgh. We now travel 80 miles to visit and believe me it's worth every mile. The setting is beautiful, and if you are lucky to get a window seat it's a delight to watch the world go by and people watch in the city.... More

We visited here in December as we stayed at the nearby Tune hotel. The service we received here was outstanding, and the food was exceptional. The staff gave us a lovely warm greeting and were very attentive. As it was Christmas the tables had crackers and we were given a card and gift as we left. After talking to others... More

Lovely decor, tasty food and attentive waiters, all good ingredients for a great meal out. Always busy, a good sign! Ask for your food hot if you're a spice head.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
