My friend and I had the tikka mixed grill which had a great mix of spices and very generous portions. Meals were very well priced and excellent service. Being able to have a kingfisher made the experience all the more authentic.

After a long late trip up to Edinburgh, we did not not want to travel yet further for dinner so we visited Omar Khayyam as it was around the corner from our hotel. We were not disappointed. After a refreshingly ice cold beer we were ready to order from the extensive & varied menu. The food was just fab. My... More

This restaurant has a great location for commuters and tourists but there are better options if you want a filling, leisurely meal experience. I'm not a 'big eating portion junkie but I was seriously astounded at the tiny amount of rice and curry that arrived at the table for dinner. OK, it was tasty enough, however the pathia was a... Arrived at 11pm after the golf, and they happily accepted us even though they where closing. We sat down to an ice cold kingfisher draft, and then proceeded to mow down a main meal. The food was hot and tasty, the service was excellent. They had a good menu, with many great options. My friends had the butter chicken, which... More

Visited yesterday to undertake an accessibility assessment and although they have a flat entry, they don't have an adapted toilet....disappointing.

I had dinner at Omar Khayyam. The atmosphere is nice, food is delicious, and the staff was friendly. We tried OMAR'S MIX GRILL which has a sample of everything was great. We also tried the MEAT THALI and we were satisfied. Definitely would go there again.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
