Lovely French Bistro

Great choice on menu, loved the choice of wines, authentic French classic dishes and buzz in the room.

Lunch here is always very good. Speedy very friendly cheerful service. Good atmosphere and excellent food . Two courses £7.95 once seated bread, dried meat, olives and a salad on the table. Himself had terrine which was excellent and I had French onion soup with crouton and cheese. Very very good made with great meat stock. I had cow au... More

Had lunch at "chez jules" last year and enjoyed it very much. Returning to Edinburgh for a break we decided to return to "chez jules". We again had an excellent lunch and good service however when we paid our bill with cash ( an unfortunate mistake...) we were told, after a while, by the waitress returning from the bar that... If my good waitresses did not apologize, I am surprised and sorry BUT I know for a fact that they would not have wished to insult you. Although somehow, I am glad you felt this way, just a confirmation of our "Frenchness!" Zut alors!!!!! More

I visited following a recommendation a was very pleased I had. I was a little nervous as I was only in Edinburgh for a couple of nights and didn't really know anywhere however I would would definitely encourage anyone in the area or wanting a fab French meal to go. The service was incredibly friendly and fast. The extras; olives,... More

Hadn't visited Chez Jules for a few months so when a friend's birthday came round, we thought to return. How foolish to leave it so long! We were running late yet they very kindly let us move the table back a couple of times. The food was superb, confit duck and half a dozen oysters to start, lovely wine and... More

Nice little restaurant very accommodating staff allowed us to change our order last minute and let our friend pay her part of the bill as had to leave before us. Lovely mussels cooked to perfection and very nice steak would visit again.

One of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. Located in a crowded basement on Hanover Street, this is an unfussy, no frills affair. You occasionally get a spot to yourself but be prepared to be sat at a long gingham covered table on a hard bench beside strangers (I wouldn't necessarily choose this place for a first date or if you're... Never been for dinner but good value however the quality of the steak is questionable. Also the place could benefit from more lighting. Staff are nice and accommodating.

Super value for the money. Ambience is just fantastic. Real french feeling about the restaurant with excellent french music from the 60's onwards. We absolutely loved the food we sampled on our two visits, during our weeks stay in Edinburgh. Can't wait to return.

Good Food, Great Company. On the Table: Salad, olives, gherkins, bread. Starter: Confit Duck leg as a starter - loved it. Main: Coquille St Jacques it was lovely (Scallops 45-60 seconds over cooked - who would have thought it, the French overcook something!). Dessert: Creme Brûlée. Food was good. Wine was Good😄 They must really HATE washing up - the... More
