A lively French bistro

Located in Hanover Street just before Queen Street, you could almost miss this restaurant as it is downstairs below ground level. It is a typical French restaurant in that there is very little space between tables so if you want a private chat over dinner, this is not the place to come!! Chairs are... read more

We came here after a long day of sight seeing and it couldn't have been better. Brilliant, lively atmosphere and the food was incredible. I can't wait to come back here again. Highly, highly recommend it!

In 1976 I went to London and stayed in what was The Sherlock Holmes Hotel. One or two blocks away was a French restaurant (only God remember its name), and for dinner there I asked for a half chicken with fine species. The food came in a casserole full of odour, full of taste. I am sure that this chicken... More

I ate here twice whilst in Edingburgh , the food was excellent and the service good . The wine was good and the prices reasonable , would highly recommend the chicken with herbs and salt .

Edinburgh is bustling at festival time - but we enjoyed a bistro style lunch that was reasonably priced. It is noisy but that is an indication of people having a good time. We have been before and were wondering if the standards had slipped - they had not. The service is excellent, attentive and efficient. The food is good.

Positive: nice food but not great, fair price, attentive staffs, good vibe. Constructive feedback: restroom requires major overhaul and cleaning.

Amazing to get a table in a Saturday of the Fringe but the place was buzzing . They give you salad , olives and bread on arrival . Good service and good no nonsense French Bistro food . only criticism was that my beans were very Al dente but didn't send back for fear of being ignorant ! Excellent cheese... More

This was a nice surprise French Bistro, was going to restaurant nearby but it was closed that night. Really liked food, service and atmosphere, including candle in wine bottle. Cost of mains reasonable for centre of Edinburgh. Seafood and lamb brochettes both good, goats cheese and mushroom and Toulouse sausage, fries and dauphinois potatoes great, really enjoyed. House wine red... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
