Good value lunch

This is the sister restaurant of Pierre victoire just down the road which has the exact same lunch set up. Everyone gets free salad and bread. You can order one to 3 courses and it was very tasty and good value. My terrine was lovely, coq au vin was very tasty but the meat did taste a bit... read more

We had the scallops and they were perfect. Bread and salad good and sticky toffee pudding wonderful. Nice casual but elegant atmosphere, very sweet waitresses. Loved it!

I will definitely return to this restaurant next time I am in Edinburgh. The food was excellent, great value, a buzzing atmosphere and to top it all off, the waitresses were fantastic. And not just because they were all wearing denim shorts, although that was a bonus! I was with friends but this would be a cracking place for a... More

I've been on a few different occasions, with groups of different people, and each time all of us were over the moon about the food. Steak, turkey, fish, soups, frog legs, snails- all the dishes were amazing, freshly made to the order, and served really quickly. Every table is given a free appetizer which is baguette and butter, lettuce leaves... More

Thank you so much for your review, I am glad you like us. I like to point out that we do also serve green beans, roasted vegetable, green salad ... should you wish a greener side to our lovely steaks. Regarding the service! Point taken I am at the very moment studying the possibility of fitting our tables with an... More

Food was okay, service terrible! Ordered surf n turf with a medium steak which was over cooked. Ate it anyway. When the food arrived it was put down and the waitress walked off before asking if we needed anything. Had to get someone else's attention to get vinegar. I was given olive oil! Again had to get someone's attention was... More

Having just read your review, when I asked my manageress if she heard about a lady who wanted vinegar for her fries I got the following answer: - “Oh yes! It was farcical. Apparently you ordered vinegar and “Coline” the very French bubbly waitress unsure as to why you would want vinegar for, brought what she thought was vinegar.” Unfortunately... More

We've been here a few times with business partners etc and always had a great meal, even the free bread and salad to start is lovely! Great service from the waitresses, house wine is good and fully recommend the steaks, lamb and the dauphinois! Creme Brûlée went down well too! You'd be a fool not to go.

Went to Chez Jules following a recommendation from a friend and what a treat. Genuine little French bistro with authentic French cuisine, wine etc. Food was lovely and service great. Not to be attempted if you are looking for a restaurant with all its heirs and graces. This is a fab restaurant with lovely food where it is down to... More

Reasonable food, great atmosphere, and mostly really good staff, although it was notable that they were more focussed in clearing up empty tables later on in the evening than serving customers. The wine list was poor and a bit overpriced, with a lack of clear descriptions of the wines, cultivars etc. but the real problem was the toilets. The gents... More

We arrived early, long before the friend we were meeting, but that did not phase the staff at all, and we had a great time--good, inexpensive house wine and very tasty, well-prepared French cuisine. A lovely night out.

popped in for a reasonably priced 3 course lunch with my partner and was blown away by the quality of food, service and ambience. Will definately go back to this charming and romantic place to eat - fabulous.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
