The whole table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. My surf and turf was delicious. The toilets may it be great but the ambience and food are excellent.

If they are trying to recreate an authentic French feel to Chez Joules they have surpassed themselves with the toilets - it was 1030pm when we dropped by but they weren't just untidy they were neglected. The music was too loud for conversation; having lived in France for a decade I never encountered a din like this in a brasserie.... More

Oh "Phoque auf!" Your review had me in tears of laughters . Your description and perception of France and the French "pisseurs" is so true. Comme toi, funnily enough, when I go to any restaurant, I also start with a visit of the toilet, I also usually order white to get red and red to get white, unlike you I... More

In the middle of the festival three of us popped in for a late lunch. Service was fast and friendly. I had three courses, authentic french onion soup, steak frites and a decent pannacotta (the chocolate mousse was unfortunately finished). Nice touches with complimentary French bread, dressed salad & olives. All washed down with a pleasant house red. Excellent value... More

We went to this restaurant late on a Sunday evening during the festival , and could not be made to feel more welcome , late evening can be difficult in the city , but this place is great. The food was really good quality , we all had the onion soup and it was as good as it gets!! I... More

I have eaten at this restaurant numerous times, including the night my husband and I got engaged.. In the ten or so times I have been there, their has been NOTHING to fault. Service and food are second to none.. Living in Australia this is one of the few experiences I look forward to coming back too! Keep up the... More

Although simple,Chez Jules is very French and very good. Highly recommended as a lunch stop or for a pre-theatre meal.

Came here for dinner with my aunt and sister after our visit to the international book festival and loved it. Amazing cozy yet dynamic interior with walls of french posters, art and writing and really friendly attentive staff. I had a goats cheese on toast salad and before it even arrived we were presented with bread, salad and olives. My... More

Stumbled across this place & the menu looked good with a nice range of choices. Staff were very friendly & the place had a nice relaxed atmosphere. The music was definitely too loud but when we asked if they could turn it down they obliged. We ordered steaks which were cooked well to order & came with lovely dauphinoise potatoes.... More

Went in on Saturday lunch time during the Fringe to book a table for a pre-theatre meal later on and the ambience was fine. When we arrived at 4:30 the level of background noise was deafening and although we sat at our table we realised that the the noise level was intolerable. This was because of people shouting trying to... More

Like our delicious French food, slick service, endearing smiles, exemplary dedication and "Gallic charm", our music is also available in big doses. Mais oui! More a tonitruant "miam miam" than a hummed "hum", of course!!!! More

Our first meal in Edinburgh was 3rd August and what a dissapointment it was too. Ordered the Portabello mushrooms with goats cheese and pesto. They where not portabello mushrooms, just three small mushrooms with a type of mushroom pate smothered on top to obviously provide some sort ot taste then a sort of chees on top, it was disgusting, have... Recipe : 1- Take 3 to 4 Portobello mushrooms, wipe and dry, remove stem, peel outer skin, brush with olive oil, season and roast cap face down in a hot oven. 2- Mushroom duxelle : finely diced Paris mushrooms, shallots and fresh tarragon cook slowly over heat with a hint of Brandy, salt and pepper and reduce to a paste...
