Having just discovered this most amazing place (good food, reasonable prices, great service) only to learn it will be closing in March 2015 because of lack of funding from Edinburgh council. This restuarant/cafe not only provides training etc for people with learning disabilities but has a bakery and also makes tofu.

We are vegetarians, and just discovered 'The Engine Shed (vegetarian) Cafe' today for the first time. It is a surprise to walk up the unprepossessing stairway and walk into such a spacious cafe with such a warm atmosphere. Food is tasty and staff friendly. They bake their own bread, make their own tofu. All splendid. My partner and I looked... More

Great value, tasty lunch. And a very big thank you to the very helpful staff who not only found the document that fell out of my husband's pocket but posted it back to us. Highly recommended.

I have been coming to Edinburgh over past 3 years, Daughter is in Uni from Australia. She lives near the Innocent track/bike tunnel that was the train line to the Engine Shed. Daughter and I eat here often. The food is tasty, flavoursome, healthy, generous serves, very affordable for uni students. We also buy their tofu which is organic. (Tofu... More

I cannot praise the Engine Shed highly enough. Every time I go I'm reminded why I love it so much. The food is simply outstanding - I'd even go as far as to say the best vegan food in Edinburgh at present - and the generous portions suit me just fine. The last time I was there I had the... More

I have been a few times now and am never been disappointed. Good location close to the Commonwealth Pool and Salisbury Crags. The building is a converted Engine Shed, hence the name. A short walk takes you to the Innocent Railway, which runs through a tunnel - watch out for bikes! Food excellent, leaning towards salad and vegetarian, but there... More

I've lived in Edinburgh all my life and only just visited the Engine Shed for the first time. I don't know what took me so long! I will definitely be back! It is a nice homely cafe and, most importantly, the food was fantastic and plentiful at a very reasonable price. The fact it is a social enterprise and you... More

I first heard of this place when I came across their recipe book nearly 14 years ago and have wanted to visit ever since. Not often in Edinburgh and when I tried to visit once before it was closed! Made it today and the wait was well worth it! Had the crepes with leek and mushroom with a lovely rocket,... More
