Enjoyable lunch

Visited Hotel du Vin on a 5pm voucher offer which included 3 course lunch, a bottle of wine and coffee. The menu offered a good selection for each course and the house wine was very good. Service was friendly and professional. The whole experience offered great value for money. Will visit again.

My partner and I attended the recent Marques de Riscal wine lunch and had a wonderful time. The warm welcome, excellent wines, out of this world food and first class service made this a day to remember.A huge thank you to everyone concerned.

Took my husband for a birthday meal. Greeting and service excellent. Food was very good, not small plates either. Good choice of food. Really nice atmosphere. Can't say there was anything we didn't like. Not cheap but as a special meal well worth it. Went on a Saturday night and glad I pre booked a table.

Visited Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh to celebrate my anniversary with my girlfriend, so I booked the room/dinner/breakfast package. Decided to opt for the A la carté menu, which the offer entitled us to £20 each towards. I got the mussels (around £7) to start, which were reasonable, with my girlfriend opting for the minestrone (£6.50) which was fairly tasteless,... More

A disappointing offer our evening started off ok with good glass of wine. The dinning room was comfortable and the staff friendly. The 3 prawns which were my starter were described as half a pint of prawns, it was really x half a pint off ice, clever portion control. The steak main meal was fine but side orders extra. The wine... We chose the bistro for my birthday meal as we'd enjoyed the Sunday brunch before . We were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in - were given a private room, I got a free glass of wine and Happy Birthday plate for my dessert. For just over £22 a head there was soup a eat as much... More

I have eaten here before, but my friends had not, so I bought two deals whereby for two people you received 3 courses, a coffee and a glass of champagne ! Amazing deal ! We went today for lunch it was wonderful, and we had a great time. The place was very busy, great atmosphere and the waitresses were lovely.... More

We ate here very recently with another couple and we received the usual high quality food and friendly service. I never meant to leave a review but after experiencing a complaining couple sitting next to us, I felt, I really should do. You can find their feedback about their experience just below this review. I have to say, it is... More

Poor decor, poor portion size, poor quality ingredients, poor cooking - just poor! Oh, yes - and people smoking in "enclosed areas".

My partner and myself went to the pre-theatre meal last night. It was one of the most pathetic main meals that we have ever had. The starter was tiny and the second course which was steak and chips was disgusting. A tiny, overcooked tough piece of inedible meat with a large amount of thin microwaved chips and some green leaves.... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
