Had a booking from 6.30-8.30 which was unfortunately the only booking available. Never the less it was busy and full of atmosphere at that time - the waiter was lovely and really helpful when we had any queries. The food was great all but one thing which really ruined our experience there: A female waitress brought over the wrong thing... More

The hotel and bistro occupy part of a triangle just south of the Royal Mile. Once you have crossed the one-way system, a gateway takes you in to a courtyard and the hotel reception. The Bistro is just beyond, quite small by HdV standards, overlooked by the upstairs bar. We had a nice table for four in the corner. They... More

What a great find in Edinburgh! Based near the old town I dont usually go to hotel restaurants but this was worth the visit! It really is stylish in design and layout. The food was fantastic and I had the mussels for starters! Good wine selection as well. Only small criticism I have is that the upstairs bar served weak... More

Great atmosphere in a quirky select room seating at most 24 people also delivering a varied choice of good quality food and wine at reasonable prices is well worth a visit . The staff are helpful, willing and available to make the experience a good one .

We were a party of 10 originally, 9 turned up and one of them was a fussy eater! Add to that a "secret" birthday cake and we were not the easiest party to deal with. ..however the very professional staff coped with everything with style and humour and definitely added to our experience. The food was delightful 4 courses including... More

TOP MARKS on Saturday night party of 14…..Perfect setting, great menu and fine wine list for family celebration. We pre-booked a long table for 7pm. A family photo at the attractive entrance followed by a walk through the courtyard led to the bistro which was the perfect setting for a large group. With room for other diners on smaller tables... Lovely courtyard setting in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town does this hotel and eatery justice - the food however, could be a little more inspiring to reflect the prices in the Bistro. it's just a bit over-priced for what you get. The portion sizes are not large and border marginally on the 'nouvelle / not very much to eat... More

I ate here in January to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday. We usually avoid chain restaurants but after being pleasantly surprised with the quality of Newcastle’s bistro du vin decided that this would be a safe bet. The restaurant looks nice, good atmosphere, attentive staff but the food was a real let-down. Starters were okay, nothing special. My girlfriend ordered a... More

Made to feel like I was a thief and had to leave the building with my dining partner because the Maitre'd didn't believe I had a pre-paid and pre-booked reservation. Despite being shown the booking confirmation email and reservation number, they stalled, uhm'd and ah'd and blamed everything on the reservation agent, 5pm,co,uk. Hotel du Vin made no effort whatsoever... More
