Husband's birthday

I was looking for an special place and I always wanted to go to that restaurant since I pass by it every day when I go to uni. The food was good, the lamb we ordered was delicious. It was expensive but something I was aware of. I wouldn't recommended it as a total gourmet experience but as a safe... read more

We visited this bistros tonight and it was absolutely great. The staff deserved special praise for their friendliness but the food was also lovely. Would definitely go again (tomorrow) !

We went here actually by default as we normally go to Le Petit Folie but it's closed on a Monday, so perhaps we were comparing to much with it. We had mussels to start, which were nice but quantity was pretty small, then the roast cod which again was nice but a little tasteless, I don't like having to pay... More

We visited Hotel du Vin for dinner after purchasing a 5pm.co.uk voucher, the deal was for a 3 course meal with wine for two people for £30. The deal was fantastic value, and we left feeling we hadn't paid enough for our experience. I had soup of the day to start, which was a French minestrone soup, it was delicious,... More

Fantastic deal on a fantastic lunch. Three course lunch with a bottle of wine and coffee. The food was delicious, especially my Chicken Liver Parfait. The whole experience was wonderful. Delightful staff and excellent service. Thank you.

My partner and I attended the recent Marques de Riscal wine lunch and had a wonderful time. The warm welcome, excellent wines, out of this world food and first class service made this a day to remember.A huge thank you to everyone concerned.

Took my husband for a birthday meal. Greeting and service excellent. Food was very good, not small plates either. Good choice of food. Really nice atmosphere. Can't say there was anything we didn't like. Not cheap but as a special meal well worth it. Went on a Saturday night and glad I pre booked a table.

Visited Hotel Du Vin in Edinburgh to celebrate my anniversary with my girlfriend, so I booked the room/dinner/breakfast package. Decided to opt for the A la carté menu, which the offer entitled us to £20 each towards. I got the mussels (around £7) to start, which were reasonable, with my girlfriend opting for the minestrone (£6.50) which was fairly tasteless,... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
