Fantastic restaurant for a quick low cost lunch

It is close to work and as I only have a one hour lunch the service was great. Choice of food was fab and price great. Have been back a few times.

Great food, stylish décor and fantastic service. What's not to like? This may be a little more expensive than your run-of-the-mill Chinese but I think it's well worth that bit extra. At around £60 for 2 starters, 2 mains and a bottle of wine I really shouldn't complain. Well worth a visit and we shall be returning.

I'd like to think I know my Chinese restaurants, and in the last few months have experienced many from then New World in London to the American Peking in Wan Chai, however for finger-on-the-button, perfectly cooked Chinese food then this restaurant in the New Town area of Edinburgh takes the biscuit (or should that be the fortune cookie?). Not necessarily... More

This place has an odd name, if anything it helps it stand out from the usual places called something like 'Golden Palace Dragon'. Very attentive service, waiting staff will take your coats and take their time with you. The interior is charming and modern. The food is certainly better than your usual Cantonese restaurant, but perhaps not enough to warrant... More

We had an amazing meal on Friday night at karen's Unicorn. Not our first visit here and will certainly not be our last !!! The service and food is just fantastic and cannot recommend it enough. It is a bit more expensive than your normal chinese but then the food is just that much better! Extremely tastey!!

We were surprised at how good Karen's Unicorn turned out to be. We went with low expectations, as every other Chinese restaurant we had tried in Edinburgh since the demise of Wok & Wine has been a tremendous let down. KU were very helpful, and the head waiter very helpful, give that one of is gluten free. Not often the... More

We visited on Valentine's night - as a family of two adults, two older children. Service was excellent despite the restaurant being busy - and the food outstanding. The beef in honey was particularly good and the ribs very meaty. The decor is smart and contemporary - but we weren't made to feel out of place. The price was very... More

A small stylish modern restaurant with a simple but attractive black and white decor housed in the Georgian setting of Abercromby Place in the New Town. Good quality tables and chairs as well. A big improvement in terms of looks from its previous incarnation as an Italian restaurant. Classic Cantonese cuisine with minimal use of msg, I gather. A surprisingly... More

My husband and I had dinner here on Valentine's day it was amazing! The food was so good and the service was second to none, glasses were constantly refilled with water and plates taken quicky when finished. It's a intimite restraunt and very modern I had a fab night here would highly recommend!

We went here for Valentine's Day and the food and service was second to none from the minute we arrived, the crispy shreded beef in honey and chilli sause was amazing. I would highly recommend and there was plenty staff to see to our needs, glasses were continually topped up and plates cleared quickly even though the restraunt was full.... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
