Having eaten at Sylvesters last December on a pre-Christmas set menu, I promised myself that I would return to try the a la carte menu. I couldn't remember the name of the restaurant, so had difficulty trying to find it on the internet, but eventually found it on.......Trip Advisor! Managed to get a table for four for a busy Saturday... More

It's difficult to find restaurants that keep things simple and use fresh ingredients showcased at their best. I can't believe it's taken me three weeks to find Sylvesters, if I'd known about it when I first arrived, I'd have been eating here every day. I've been back twice in the the last two days. It's the best quality food in... More

After a long day of enjoying events at the Fringe, we needed to relax and hoped for an interesting and tasty meal at a sensible price. We were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and the modern Scottish ambience comfortable. We both had rack of lamb - tender and tasty, with chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables and pesto followed by a... More

Found this place by chance this year. Very friendly with a good menu and reasonably priced house wines by the glass. Very close to Udderbelly and St George's Sq. Good value lunch/pre-theatre menu

For our first Edinburgh dinner at the start of our annual Fringe visit. Comfortable, simple relaxing decor, friendly, helpful and attentive staff and most of all great food, reasonably priced. They keep a lovely Prosecco too. Highly recommended. Would suggest you book, particularly during the Fringe. Will go back.

We chose this restaurant at random. We chose well. Great food and smart staff who like working there make for excellent venue. The prices are reasonable and good value. The menus is small but well balanced so you know everything is fresh.

I was on a recent trip to Edinburgh and Sylvesters was a perfect choice. I can see why this restaurant is so highly rated - my meal was fantastic, the service extremely attentive and the restaurant's decor creates a warm and friendly atmosphere. I had a three rib rack of lamb with grilled vegetables and basil and walnut pesto. The... More

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner (a la carte plates, the pre theatre dinner menu is 5-6pm) before grabbing a couple of evening shows at near by Fringe Festival venues. The "Melange" salad was delicious with a tangy mix of salad, nuts, cheese and cous cous, my husband had the pork dish and it looked and tasted beautiful,... More
