The restaurant looks lovely and the drinks are great. On a recent visit myself and my wife tried to get a table on 3 different occasions to be told they couldn't fit us in as they were preparing for a big group and the chef was too busy!! Even though there were plenty of free tables. Perhaps they need to... More

2 course lunch (soup with crusty bread and a main course) is really good value. Staff very friendly. Booking advisable during peak tourist times.

While expierencing the delights of this wonderful city we stopped of for lunch at amber , very nice , lunch was soup du jour and a sandwich very reasonable price . To finish we had to have a few whiskeys at the very well stocked bar and staff very helpful.

Me and my parents visited here on Sunday 10 May and we pre-booked a table for 7pm, as we have visited here on two other occasions and loved it. We decided to try the whiskey bar itself, before hand and it was an absolute joy. The barman (who I regret I never got his name) was so informative and a... More

We needed to bring forward our booking by an hour but this was no problem as the restaurant was quiet early evening and we arrived even earlier than our rescheduled time. This was nor problem to the staff. The food was very good and my wife and I enjoyed everything that we had including smoked salmon, mussels, guinea fowl stuffed... More

Not just an add on to the whisky experience but a lovely restaurant in its own right. We enjoyed lovely lamb stovie at lunch for a very reasonable price. There was good variation on the menu and the staff were happy to help you chose a whisky to go with your meal from the extensive whisky menu! If you don't... More

This restaurant was a surprise as it is located within what may be considered a tourist trap. I have had many business meetings in Scotland and have used this restaurant about 5 times now. The large range of Whisky available in the shop on the upper level pulls you in and once i managed to get down into the restaurant... More

Had a great meal which was also great value. Staff friendly and attentive. The highlight was the opportunity to sample numerous whiskies at very reasonable prices. Considering its prime location the restaurant offers great value for money. Would highly recommend. Staff very knowledgeable about the whiskies and happy to make recommendations to suit your palate.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
