Wonderful menu and drinks list

We expected this to be fine dining, and it certainly was...but it was not formal...take note! It is pretty casual and that can take you unawares. The seating is not as comfortable as expected but the food was really fine.

If you're wanting to cleanse your pallet and learn about Scotch & Whisky - this is the place to go. Everyone was knowledgable and it was a great experience being able to try various types of Scotch & Whisky! This was our stop after the Edinburgh Castle.

The Scottish are renowned for their friendliness and welcome. This restaurant is a clear exception. We found it through Tripadvisor and arrived on a slightly rainy lunchtime. The restaurant was busy but not frenetic. i requested a table for four and a half (we had the baby with us) "You mean five," said the waitress not cracking a smile. "Yes",... More

We tried this restaurant on a whim and we weren't disappointed. The staff are so friendly, it's a great looking place. The menu has a good choice. We went for lunch and my partner had the Scottish tapas and whisky which he enjoyed and I had a sandwich great food reasonable price. Good place to pop into before heading around... More

This is not a review of the restaurant, but the bar in the restaurant, although we did have nibbles. As you would expect in a bar belonging to the Whisky experience the selection of whiskies is almost too much to take in and therefore selection of your whisky is not easy. Fortunately the bartender is very knowledgeable and can help... More

We came for dinner. The food was delicous, but portions were surprisingly small. The tapas were tiny and tasty. We enjoyed the hake as a main. Wine selection could easily be better

I am really pleased with everything this place has to offer. From the food, the lovely vibe, the people working there (who are always friendly and helpful). A must-go for the people visiting Scotland!

After our long walk at the Edinburgh Castle and after visiting the Scotland west whisky -- here we are eating at the Amber restaurant. Thought the place is really good and the food price is ok. We all enjoyed our light lunch and truly entertained it. The free wifi is very inviting too. We all had a wonderful lunch and... More

We visited here again last week as it is one of our favourite places when we travel to Edinburgh. The food and service is always 5* - the meat platter was just amazing and the haggis, neeps and tatties has never been bettered in all the years I have eaten it. We also love the whisky bar and the enthusiasm... More

The restaurant looks lovely and the drinks are great. On a recent visit myself and my wife tried to get a table on 3 different occasions to be told they couldn't fit us in as they were preparing for a big group and the chef was too busy!! Even though there were plenty of free tables. Perhaps they need to... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
