Visited just for drinks and was surprised at just how large the selection of whiskies was. As relative newbies the bar staff were very helpful in recommending what we may wish to try. Atmosphere was relatively quiet, but ideal for whisky enthusiasts to sit and sample a wide range

We decided to call in here for some lunch while we were up at the Royal Mile. Before we ate we decided to have a wonder around the whiskey shop, boy was that interesting, what a choice! We moved on to the restaurant where we were treated and seated. Our order was taken by knowledgeable staff and my wife decided... More

Ate at this very good restaurant while visiting Edinburgh for the day, the food was lovely service spot on with just enough interaction to make you feel comfortable and informed, a big bonus is the whiskey bar which is part of the restaurant, again very informed staff, would highly recommend if your in Edinburgh.

Food was excellent, and serving staff efficient and polite. We had smoked salmon starters, beautifully presented. Wife then had salad with fillet of beef - she described it as a fantastic caesar salad. Freshly cooked and pink beef over salad. I had haggis neeps and tatties, but they must have run out of neeps as I didn't see it. Whisky... More

This is the first time that we have ever left a review for a restaurant. We have enjoyed it so much that we really wanted to share the experience . The ambience is relaxed and there is a sense of spaciousness. The staff are professional, friendly, very obliging and knowledgable about their food and especially the whiskies. The chef was... More

We arrived earlier than planned as we took a rather strenuous short cut; this was no problem and we were quickly shown to our choice of table and given menus, a wine list and the whisky list. The menu is one page, the wine list is about four and the whisky list is... I didn't count but they have around... More

I see his name a few times in other reviews, the bartender Stuart makes this great bar even better. His knowledge of the 400+ whiskies at his disposal is remarkable. His recommendations - excellent . Plus his personality and service were top notch. Give the man a raise! Hope to see you States side Stuart! -Jerry and Patrick

Excellent food: I loved my haggis pot which I had for my starter and the venison for my main was excellent. Patrick the waiter had really good customer service skills and knowledge about the food, beers and most importantly the whiskey. It was that good, I went back the following day for Scottish Tapas, which was nice. Tristan

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
