Tasty

We went here based on the recommendation from Camera Obscura. Because we had tickets from there our child's meal was free. Service was great and food was tasty. Perfect lunch for us.

After enjoying the two hour Morning Masterclass, we decided we would avoid the rain a little longer and grab a quick bite to eat. Thankfully, we were seated without reservations despite the crazy Tattoo and Fringe Festival crowds. The service was prompt and courteous. The food was delicious. I enjoyed smoked Scottish salmon (with homemade soda bread - yum!) and... More

I didn't do the tour but rather just had lunch and a whisky platter. The service was prompt and the food was lovely. The star was the whisky obviously with a good selection on offer. Great with a group of friends for a boozy lunch if a little on the pricey side.

We ate here as part of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Amber package. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. Well balanced food and wine combinations. Not too much or too little of either. Prompt, pleasurable service. Timed just right to get us to our seats in plenty of time to enjoy the show.

This place has one of the biggest collection of Scotch whisky bottles ( with contents, of course! )--over 2000 of them ! And a very modern, automated audio-visual tour of the Scotch whisky distilling process! And of course, a very convenient restaurant at the basement--and a good one too! Being located just near the main entrance to the Edinburgh Castle,... More

We had a set menu which was very good - the beef particularly so - however, really let down by the bread rolls - they were the part-baked-shove-in-the-oven type - really not of the quality of the rest of the meal also the coffee at the end was luke warm but it was a very large group. All in all... More

We had just toured Edinburgh Castle and were starving. We found this place walking down the hill and decided to give it a try. A well presented place to eat. We both ordered lamb, and it was excellent! A wonderful haven in all the hubbub in this area.

Great place to taste something delicious - we had ordered Scottish stew. Good variety of whisky either. Polite and helpful stuff, recommend to anyone in Edinburgh!

I did the 'Taste of Scotland' option with the scotch tour, and thought it was delicious. There were three small appetizers, and three small entres, all of which were delicious. In particular, I enjoyed the chicken with black pudding and the hake in potato stew. They have a reasonable wine list, and the dessert course comes with a dram of,... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
