We turned up without a reservation after finding the restaurant on-line. The restaurant still had its closed sign up even though we could see some diners inside, but after some loitering on the pavement the waitress must have noticed and came and turned the sign over. The restaurant is poky, with tables pushed close together and is an odd layout.... More

Food was perfect but service was extremely poor. Only one other table in the place and struggled to get the waitresses attention for drinks and to clear plates. Also the fixtures and fittings look pretty tired. Would not go back based on service but they do a very good steak.

I booked for myself, my husband and my son (14). Never been before but will definitely be back. The staff were great and the food was better. Best steak ever....ours were chargrilled - delicious! Defo the place to go if you love steak. Loved it. Highly recommend a visit

This is easily now one of my favourite places to eat in Edinburgh. Every course was perfect including my side order of prawn skewers.

The restaurant is stark , badly lit (in my opinion) and a bit like a canteen, it did not feel loved or welcoming and the service felt the same. The food was ok and I could not really make a negative comment other than for the price it could have been way better. The Shiraz was one of the worst... More

Our party of six were on a short stay holiday in Edinburgh and had sampled a few restaurants but wanted a nice steak house. We were talking about this when the taxi driver mentioned McKirdys in Morrison Street so I look it up and made a booking on our last night in the city. The website tells you that the... More

Great food, steaks cooked to perfection and good sized portions. Was really busy after the Ireland Rugby match but the service was very friendly and efficient. Have been before and will definitely be back.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
