Top Notch Meal

I've come to Edinburgh on a family visit and was running through various places to go for a meal. We decided on here as my sister hadn't been before. Very glad we did. My starter was great and the burger I had was one of the best I've had for a while. Will recommend this to my friends if they... read more

Have been here several times, as it's one of my wife's favourites, stating that it is as close to South African steaks as she's found in 20 years of being in the UK. I normally opt for the burger with blue cheese or haggis and the haggis and bourbon sauce it awesome. Service is always good, efficient & friendly Can't... More

Been to McKirdy's a quite a few times over the years and it has always been good. Recently went before going to a fringe show and booked a table for 5.30pm. We both had the early bird menu at £13.95 and thought for a starter and a rump steak main this was excellent value for money. We both ordered our... More

Doing what they do best and cooked to perfection. Neat little place served by people who know about meat. After researching possible restaurants ready for our visit to Edinburgh, this one stood out from the crowd.

The staff were friendly and welcoming from the get go. We shared the fillet steak, manchego, rocket & chilli sauce starter! It was wonderful! Could easily have been a main courses! Our steaks were cooked to perfection and a very decent size! I can't wait to go back!

Great fillet steak in a lovely Restaurant, I have been meaning to go here for ages but just never got around to it, so glad I have been, food excellent, staff friendly but a little slow, however it was very busy and I needed to go for my last train. Overall fab.

I visited one Wednesday evening prior to arranging a meal out in Edinburgh with a group of friends. I arrived early, just before evening opening and was pleasantly surprised when the waiter (manager?) held open the door and welcomed me in (7 minutes before time...). Even for early evening the restaurant started to fill with a number of tables and... More

Do you enjoy going where the locals eat well? This is your place! The McKirdy's are a family of butchers who have been creating the best cuts of steaks for the merchants of Edinburgh for generations. This is their restaurant. One of the owners, Colin, waited on us and ended up telling the entire family adventure. Scotland has always produced... More

I've visited McKirdy's about six times now, and the consistency of their food is very impressive. Service is friendly and quick. The steaks are of top quality beef, and the other items on the menu such as haggis and sausages are also superb. One of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh, can't recommend highly enough.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
