Great Early Diner Deal

Located in Morrison Street, near to both Haymarket and Lothian Road, this is a great steak restaurant. Most people seem to go for dinner at the regular time, but if you go before 6.30 any day of the week, you can choose from the early diner's menu. The choice is limited but if all you want is a... read more

Small but nice restaurant. My whole rack of pork ribs were really tasty tender and juicy. Fillet was worth, but a little small. Good but not excellent, probably I had to try their specialty haggis…next time!

First of all I can't believe some of the bad reviews ,a group of 15 of us went there all had a starter , steaks of different size and quality ( rump sirloin t-bone etc...) most with sauce ,couple of bottles of wine and drinks and it came to £40 per head leaving a tip for excellent service as all... We had wanted to go here for a whiles as this place has been open for years, we will not repeat. It was ok but pricey. The steaks are all in mid £20's PLUS side dishes. Service was excellent, staff were cheery and knowledgeable. But when it comes in at £44 per head, 2 courses each only, when we brought... More

Went there with a friend and we ordered Burger and Steaks. I have been to many steakhouses in the world and this is at best average. Enterior is like in a fast food restaurant, not very nice atmosphere. The steak was nice , but nothing special, however priced as special. Much better places in that area.

On a two night stay in Edinburgh recently, we decided that a steak dinner was in order. A quick Internet search told us that Mckirdys sourced all their own meat locally and promised excellent quality. 3 of us ate, all food and drink was perfect with my barbecue cooked rib eye being possibly the nicest steak I've ever tasted!! Top... More

Where do I start?? We googled for steak restaurants around where we were staying and this one popped up. We liked the look of the menu so we booked and off we went. The decor was quite plain and unassuming. The owner took us to our table and our drink order straight away which was great. I asked advice on... More

I would recommend McKirdys as a centre town restaurant that serves excellent steaks at a reasonable price. The restaurant itself is a bit odd in shape and tables tend to be too close together. The service was average but it was quite busy.

Very lovely wee place. Its warm and cosy almost makes you feel at home. Staff are welcoming and professional. I went once for a steak and would never go anywhere else now. The quality of meat is exceptional. I never have a single fault with my meal. Would highly recommend McKirdys.

We turned up without a reservation after finding the restaurant on-line. The restaurant still had its closed sign up even though we could see some diners inside, but after some loitering on the pavement the waitress must have noticed and came and turned the sign over. The restaurant is poky, with tables pushed close together and is an odd layout.... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
