Excellent food - a must visit!

Benes came highly recommended by several people. We are so glad we took their advice! My husband had fried haggis, and loved it. Our daughter had fish and chips - said they were amazing! I had fried pizza - yeah, that should be illegal! And our son had regular pizza - not fried. Everything was... read more

Visited the shop for a bag of chips, weren't the best chips I've had. Didnt eat them. The lady who served me wasn't very pleasant and continued the conversation with the other member of staff, didn't get a thank you for my custom, didn't get a bye when leaving. Just didn't really rate the overall experience as a good one.

A great chip shop, the owners are very friendly, it's almost always a great delight! If you fancy a deep fried Marsbar then this is the place to visit!

I stopped at this place during my evening stroll down the Royal Mile. The staff here are extemely nice and chatty! They were trying to guess where I was from, since I kind of got a little bit of a southern twang, and since I am a ginger, they were assuming that I was a Scot. (I was stopped by... More

Chips & curry sauce are too die for. Busy but was served very quickly. A must try after a heavy hogmany celebration. :)

I have bought several different take away meals and every single one has been first class. Fresh everything done to order and clearly a family proud of their business. They have even served the Royal Family who have come up from H Palace. If on the Royal Mile and hungry give it a try but be warned -portions are generous!

After 2 days doing the sights we couldn't face walking far to eat so got fish and chips from here to eat in our flat in the close nearby. It was excellent. The fish was only cooked to order and was great, chips were not greasy and after avoiding it for years we even had a fried mars bar which... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
