Faultless experience

Visited during this year's festival and managed to get the last unreserved table for two on a Thursday night. Lots of locals in, which is always a good sign. Our shared starter of mussels cooked to perfection, my partners' steak dish was spot on and my fisherman's pie was one of the best I've... read more

Great food, lovely staff. If you can you should try and make a reservation as while we were there many people came in and left unable to get a table. I went with my wife for a blow out meal. Both agreed best steak we had had for a long time. My only gripe which in no way would stop... More

A nice quaint little home-style restaurant, but the food was definitely overpriced and was not anything special for the price they charge. The staffs were definitely friendly but didn't know much about the preparation of the food when we asked for more information. When given the options for the mustard, we went for the Dijon, but it was definitely not... More

Tried this place for the first time during Edinburgh Festival so it was busy but the service was great. Emma was really helpful with our wine choice and took our order for food, a lovely friendly lady and she recommended a great bar for us to visit after our meal. The restaurant is quite small but doesn't feel crowded, and... More

Thank you for a great meal, the pear and stilton salad a must, the steak and seafood Provencal very very good. What a delightful find in the heart of the city. We will be back.

We were able to get a table for dinner without having reservations. Excellent steaks and service. We even made reservations for a week later when we'd be back in Edinburgh.

We had a lovely lunch and there was a choice of a set menu or a la carte, the dishes were very good and generous in size. Friendly and efficient staff and the location was on a pedestianised street.

Booked a table during festival and glad we did cos lots of people had to be turned away. Staff very welcoming and knowledgeable about menu and drinks. Menu not huge but enough choices. Not cheap but well worth money. Steaks cooked to perfection! would def visit again.

Booked here months ago after reading the reviews and we def wasn't disappointed. Location is easy to get too and its a lovely restaurant filled with a great atmosphere. Food was great and served over the right amount of time. We all had different courses and each enjoyed the courses we had. Waiters are friendly and happy to chat to... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
