Nice little bistro

We had a very nice lunch. Great little place off the main drag, with good service and nice atmosphere.

We had dinner here and loved the atmosphere! Very quaint. Food was good. Definitely try the haggis balls and the goat cheese with red onions. Steak was well prepared and the peppercorn sauce was amazing. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent as well.

We were in Edinburgh for a week and this was without a doubt the best meal we had our of several very good dinners. One reviewer called it the worst restaurant he had ever eaten at. I really dislike revenge reviews...they are all about the writer and not the reader. The Surprise Calamari is wonderful, but as a vegetarian, I... More

My husband and I visited the restaurant at the end of June. It has a relaxed atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and an amazing menu. The food and service were both excellent. We look forward to returning soon.

Very good value with the 12 - 5 pm lunch special. Wonderful ambience in this historic building. We also eat here for dinner but found the lunch menu and value to be a better option.

Husband and I enjoyed our 2 course pre-theatre menu here earlier this week. Started off with Camembert fondu (very tasty) and husband had haggis, which he loved. Followed that up with Chicken and coconut Vietnamese style and Beef cheeks, both of which we could not finish because we were full. Thought the free bread and olive oil/balsamic was a nice... More

Just getting around to a review some 10 months late, but a positive lasting impression was formed and I was just thinking of returning this week. I remember the decor and atmosphere were lovely and all 3 diners enjoyed every dish and greedily finnished every morsel - we were stuffed but happy. Looking forward to returning soon.

We called in here on Saturday, just for drinks this time, really like the atmosphere and staff here. We have eaten here previously, before I started reviews via Trip Advisor, all very good, hadn't previously stopped just for drinks, JD and Coke, a pleasant start to an evening.

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
