We went for the first time to the Playwright and weren't disappointed. The food was excellent and not too expensive, although you could never describe the prices as cheap. The wine and beer selection was also excellent and catered for all tastes. I would certainly recommend anyone who is looking for a nice meal in Dundee to give it a... More

Two of us ate here on a Friday night, got a reservation easily which surprised me as it is rated so highly on Tripadvisor. When we arrived there was only one other table of 4 who had finished eating but were enjoying the wine, and one other table came in after us. I'd perused their website in advance (good simple... Had to wait more than one hour between each of the three courses, due to kitchen issues. We got a good discount from the staff in the end, but the meal itself was not that great, which was disappointing, because I had heard good things regarding this restaurant.

We dined at Playwright last night to celebrate some last minute special news - what a disappointment. From the start things were not great. The lighting was harsh and bright, the music too low to the point were we had to listen to a 3 min explain of a certain tables requirements between the waiting staff at the bar at... More

Great food and lovely atmosphere. Small high quality menu. Pork is stupendous. Wine served in nice big glasses. Well worth a visit. We will return.

We had the pre-theatre menu, there's a choice of 2 or three courses with a good range of course. Presentation was excellent and the flavours could not be faulted. The staff are very good and always around to look after you. I had Pigeon starter and the sea bream main both of which were beautiful. Our friends had equally good... More

Pre-theatre meal with 3 fussy individuals...took a risk and scored! This little gem should be shouted about from the hill-tops! Firstly the reservation was super quick last minute (the place was still reasonably full). The waitress was professional. The place had a cosy ambience and was spotless. The food served to the other diners was certainly eye-catching...and I wondered if ours... More

We came here for my birthday, it is pricey therefore not a place I would regularly. Mains and deserts for two with prosecco and the bill was over £100 but I'd come here again.

Remains in our list of favourite ever restaurants to visit. The Suckling Pig and Venison main courses stood out, but the whole meal was tremendous.
