Amazing - great food & service. Has to be one of the best eating experiences I have had in a long time. Highly recommend.

We have just returned from yet another beautiful meal at the playwright . We have always in the past managed to eat from the pre theatre menus. This time we were being treated by my visitor from Canada who wanted to take us out for a special evening . He was delighted with the choice and quality of the food... More

Excellent food. Kindness of the service. The place is small and elegant without been pretentious. The 3 course menu was a very good deal. They let us try three different kinds of house wines before to decide. This was very kind of the waiter. Cabernet from Australia was the best choice for me.

Ate here for our anniversary last night and the food was delicious. Lots of strange food combinations or maybe I've just led a sheltered life - scallops with chicken and rice, then veal with pear and chocolate - but somehow they worked together. Great service and lovely drinks recommendations. They also made a perfect plain daiquiri which a lot of... More

Our daughters wedding celebration on 23rd august 2014 in this restaurant was fabulous. We met with the chef and manageress before the wedding to prepare a menu with appropriate wines and they were extremely helpful. On the day itself, the meal and wine was excellent. Throughout the evening the service from the Bar/restaurant and kitchen staff cannot be faulted. We... More

On arrival we were instantly made to feel welcome, our waiter was pleasant gent throughout. He guided us through our breads and took our drinks order ( quite an extensive wine list). The food was lovely, could... More

Had the 3-course pre-theatre menu here with a friend after reading so many great reviews and not only did it not disappoint, but my already high expectations were exceeded. Delicious flavoured breads were a nice beginning to the evening, but my Pigeon starter truly set the tone. The flavours and textures were quite amazing. Beautifully presented, each mouthful was an... Second time we visited The Playwright and we had the pre-theatre set menu which costs an amazing £20 per head for three courses. The waitress we had could not have been nicer and more helpful with taking our coats to helping us select a nice wine and constantly filling our water glasses. The food arrived promtly and was outstanding. All... More

We went here for dinner and had the set menu. The three courses were absolutely delicious ! The place is fairly compact which adds to the ambiance . The staff can't be more helpful. Terrific value for high quality and high class cuisine .
