We must have eaten at the Playwright at least 10 times over the past couple of years, and the food is always fantastic. Never less than "very good". This time the peach and almond tart was, according to my wife, "simply divine". Compared with the signature pudding from our last meal - in a 2 Michelin start restaurant in London... More

3 evening meals here over the past 2 months and they have all been consistently good. delicious and bold flavours throughout the 3 courses. i cannot fault this place. only possible improvement would be to offer choice of gluten free bread.

Lovely restaurant with great decor and good atmosphere. Pre-Theatre good value, otherwise a bit pricey. Good Veggie choice

Wishing to have a cocktail, we entered the door and asked if it would be ok just to have a cocktail at the bar, we were told yes. The chairs by the bar were all clustered together and no effort was made by staff to move them which we done ourselves. We ordered our drinks but were made to feel... More

Lunched here quite a few times and not as reliable as it should be. Starter and main courses were adequate, sweet superb! That was the opinion of three of us who all had the same thing. The fourth had no sweet and a different main which he said was poor. Other times all has been excellent.

Lunch today and had an excellent 2 course meal for £12.95, great value. I had the sirloin steak and it was cooked spot on (medium rare), my partner had the loin of pork and it was lovely, for desert we both had the chocolate terrine, fab. Will definitely be back.

I've been here many times and it never disappoints. I think it's great value for money and the fresh bread is always amazing. Great cocktails and wine with friendly staff and an interesting menu. Give it a go :)

The Playwright is one of my favourite retaurants in Dundee. Great food, friendly staff and fantastic pre theatre prices. My partner and I or a few of my girlfriends visit once a month and I have never been disappointed. The steaks are always excellent and the desserts are fab. Can't speak highly enough of the place.

The first was the pre-show fixed price. Really rather good. So we came back the second night for starter and dessert from the a la carte. Really nice meat ravioli (ravioli?) with langoustines, and the best rice pudding I think I've ever had - contained rose water.
