This is probably the best and most competently cooked food in Dundee. Beautifully presented and consistent quality. Lovely combinations of ingredients and flavours are cooked classically. Starters and puddings stand out. Only criticism is food can be very rich and seasoning can be a little too much for my palate. Service is professional and friendl. We have been to this... More

Reading other reviews, we had high expectations but our overall experience was not great. The menu is ambitious but it seems really overpriced. There was no main course below £23.95, which is a bit steep for anything other than a first-class experience - and it was not first class. I had pork belly with cabbage, priced at £24.95 and although... More

My fiancée and I used to live in Dundee and visited the Playwright regularly. We left about 2 years ago and spent the weekend visiting Dundee recently. We decided to go for a late lunch at around 2:00pm and we lucky enough to get a table without a reservation. The price for the lunch menu is still the same as... More

My husband and I always eat here for special occasions as the food and service are great. Although its pricey, its well worth it. They aim to please and are always happy to make adjustments or substitutions to the menu if possible. The cocktails are lovely too- I can recommend the Rapaska.

After a great night out with family, I decided after recommendations to go to the playwright for a cocktail, and this was about 20:30 as we walked up the Perth road admiring the sights and commenting about the graphic visual displays projected on the front of the playwright I opened the door and took my family up the stairs commenting... As we were attending the Dundee Rep Theatre we thought we would try The Playwright next door for a pre-theatre meal. The restaurant was full and had a nice ambience. We were absolutely delighted with the quality of food which was the best we've sampled so far in any restaurant in Dundee. It was nicely presented, of excellent quality and... More

We had the pre-theatre menu and it was very good value for money, each course was very tasty and the service was very friendly and relaxed. This was the best meal we have had in Dundee so far.

Thoroughly enjoyed our pre-theatre meal at the Playwright. The food was delicious with very good service. £50 for three courses and drink for two was very reasonable. Would put this restaurant at the top of our list when next visiting Dundee.

Most certainly this maintains to be the best restaurant in Dundee, although given the lack-lustre alternatives that could be a back handed complement. So transport this restaurant to any other location in the UK and it would still hold its own! It had been a while since I was last here much to my own detriment. I enjoyed a beautiful... More
