It was OK-ish

Main course OK but pudding = burnt Service slow - waiter should have noticed the burnt offering and not brought it to the table.

My husband and I had dinner here using a Itison Voucher. We were unsure of what to expect having purchased a main course each and a glass of wine. From the time we arrived we were looked after very well indeed. Our coats were taken and we were shown to a nice table. Having ordered our main course, iced water... More

My friend and I were at the Playwright last night having booked some two weeks' ago. I ordered the Saddle of Venison and my friend had the Monkfish. We were given a selection of different rolls/bread. To begin with we had an amuse bouche of duck pate prior to main course-delicious. My venison was cooked to perfection & the elderflower... More

One of the best restaurants in Dundee which may be resting on its laurels somewhat. Lovely bar with a decent cocktail selection - and the skill to make them properly. Ambiance is understated and the actor's portraits make interesting viewing. A nice selection of breads provides an appetising start to the evening and a short but interesting menu bodes well... Shamefully this was our first visit to the Playwright, we took full advantage of the lunch menu £12.95 for 2 courses. As a party of four we varied between starters - mushroom risotto (the best I have ever tasted) parsnip soup with poached egg. Mains - Guinea fowl, ratatouille, pork and salmon. All were beautifully cooked, presented and generous portions.... More

Visited here with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I chose this restaurant after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. It was one of the best meals I have ever had in a restaurant in the UK. From arriving we were made to feel very welcome. We both had Scallops won a wild mushroom tart. The... More

Had lunch here to celebrate a birthday. staff were pleasant but did not check that we were happy until clearing each course. No pepper or salt available on table or offered by staff who were busy attending to bar. The pork loin was very fatty and more like pork belly and a third of this plate was uneaten and reported... The Playwright offers the finest food of any restaurant in Dundee. I have been several times and never been disappointed. Frequently changing menu, excellent wine selection and friendly service makes a visit in the Playwright always more than worthwhile. So I should have given this restaurant a 5*, but I did not because the venue as such is nice and... More

Went to Playwright for pre theatre 3 course for £20. Probably best described as fine dining. Poached pear, ham and fig starter, sea bream and risotto main and coffee macaroon dessert. Beautiful meal, service was excellent, will go back
