Superb Food and Excellent Service

Most recently ate here on Sat 14th February. As it was Valentine's Day there was a set menu priced at £32 which included 3 courses coffee and tablet as well as a glass of prosecco on arrival and a wee chocolate. There were 3 or 4 choices in each course. The food was faultless and the service was... read more

We had Sunday lunch from the set 2/3 course menu...all the main courses and the kids food were all excellent, the service was good and we got a table straight away even though we hadn't booked...the only thing that let it down was the choice of puds, obviously everyone else thought the same as the only tempting one had been scribbled off... This is an up market pub food and restaurant. The food is excellent the service is good and it is a lovely place to visit. The garden is quiet and secluded. We decided to eat here as the place was actually mentioned in a walk we were following along the coast. Glad we did. Great menu and the light bits were fantastic. Great well kept real ale too so that ticks all the boxes. Friendly staff and lovely waitress.

Central Kirkudbright Hotel popular with visitors from abroad who engage in local activities (shooting, fishing, arts etc). Walls have various works of art for sale. Large restaurant and well furnished public areas that we used. Residents lounge is tastefully decorated. Well stocked bar with three real ale handpumps and Innes and Gunn Beers on tap! Wide menu covering meat, fish... More

Visited with my wife in December on her birthday. We chose to eat in the Restaurant rather than the Bistro (where we have eaten previously) and we were the only diners. This did make for a little lack of atmosphere but did ensure smooth service that was both friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Being quite a good cook myself... More

I am well-travelled, have eaten in many excellent restaurants, am the daughter of a cordon-bleu cook and used to be a professional caterer myself. I was amazed by the high quality of the food at the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcudbright. My lunch there was one of the best meals I have eaten in my life. (I have not mentioned outdoor... More

In October we booked a cottage at Castle Douglas for a Christmas family holiday and then couldn't find anywhere that was open for Christmas Day lunch. On the Internet we eventually came across the Selkirk Arms, and booked what we were told was the last available table. As we had never been before we were a bit apprehensive about what... More

What a wonderful treat to eat here! We went for dinner with a very large group and the evening went like clockwork. I enjoyed a beautiful steak and a starter of chilli and brie which was amazing. Great to see so many local producers named on the menu. Would 100% recommend to anyone who enjoys good food and exemplary service.

What a great night! Food was really tasty and the host did a great job keeping everyone amused. There was games, a quiz and dancing to music from the last 5 decades! Great fun!
