Description: Abbey Cottage is a family owned and run tearoom celebrating 30 years in business in 2013. We are delighted to receive a 'Top Tea Place' award from the Tea Council in April 2013. We offer coffees, light lunches and afternoon teas, sourcing ingredients locally, and even growing some ourselves. We have a good understanding of dietary issues and can offer gluten and lactose free menu options. Situated next to Sweetheart Abbey, in the shadow of Criffel and on the road to the coast.

Have visited this brilliant tea room several times, never fails to impress. The staff are always neat and tidy and extremely helpful, the choice of menu is brilliant as is the teas and coffees. If you get the chance try their java coffee it hits the right spot.

Decided to stop by here for lunch on the way to Southerness. I found the staff pleasant and the tom & vegetable soup was most splendid with a perfect sized portion. The Banana loaf was a bit different than what I was expecting, found it a tad dry compared with others I've tried. Would defiantly stop by here again.

Thanks for taking the time to post your feedback on Tripadvisor. I don't think you gave us any feedback directly on a Customer Comment card? The cards are on all of our tables, and it would have been good to hear your feedback directly as well as suggestions for how we could make changes to the atmosphere. Maybe you missed... More

Not sure where all the reviews are coming from for this place. No atmosphere , cakes non-existant and stale when one eventually arrived. No skill here at all.And they are supposed to write for papers !!! Just shows you anyone's a food critic these days .

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your visit to Abbey Cottage 6 months ago. We bake our cakes daily, and keep them in airtight containers in our kitchen so that they are fresh and cannot become contaminated or stale from sitting out in the tearoom itself. The downside of this is that we do not... More

Fantastic location opposite Sweetheart Abbey. Good choices on the menu and home cooked food. delicious. It's a cosy cafe with attentive staff. There is a small shop attached to the cafe with interesting items to purchase. The ruins of the abbey are worth looking at.

We were thrilled to find proper teapots and a choice of teas. Home baking much appreciated and lovely views over Sweetheart Abbey. Relaxed service and good quality shop/music for gifts if you wanted. Toilets clean too

Had a super home made soup and a local pâté sandwich and a very large pot of tea. Lovely ambience. Good value too.

Thank you so much for your feedback. It's great to hear from our customers. We usually have a couple of choices of homemade soup available, often made with veg from our own garden. Please to hear that you also enjoyed the tea - we've got a 'tea menu', so I hope you found your favourite! More

We had walked around the Sweetheart Abbey and decided to have a coffee before going on. The service was friendly and the food was tasty (best scone we had that week.) The tea room was perhaps too quiet for a family but we enjoyed our experience.

Quick table service upon arrival even though there were plenty customers. Outdoor tables were all taken so had to sit inside. Baked potatoes were ready so we both had them after waiting only a few minutes, 1 with chilli con carne and 1 with cheese. Cleared the plate. Toilets were clean and fresh. If sitting outside, you have the Abbey... More

Our outdoor tables, with lovely view of Sweetheart Abbey, have been very popular this summer! I'm pleased that you enjoyed your lunch with us. Our baked potatoes get popped into the oven after our scone baking in the morning, so there are always plenty ready for lunchtime. Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback on TripAdvisor, and hope... More
