Description: Abbey Cottage is a family owned and run tearoom celebrating 30 years in business in 2013. We are delighted to receive a 'Top Tea Place' award from the Tea Council in April 2013. We offer coffees, light lunches and afternoon teas, sourcing ingredients locally, and even growing some ourselves. We have a good understanding of dietary issues and can offer gluten and lactose free menu options. Situated next to Sweetheart Abbey, in the shadow of Criffel and on the road to the coast.

We enjoyed our visit to Abbey Cottage and the food was good. We chose to have a pannini and the soup. What we had was lovely and the tomato and vegetable soup was very tasty. The only thing lacking was a bit of a salad maybe to go with the pannini but all in all a nice lunch.

We called into this tearoom for coffee and a scone, both excellent, and we were so impressed with the place, standard of service and the scummy food we decided to go back for lunch. We were warmly welcomed for the second time that day by Sarah The soup was delicious and although it was named 'courgette and carrot' soup, was... More

We arrived to visit Sweetheart Abbey at lunchtime. Decided to have a light lunch. It was perfect. Delicious food. Friendly staff and good home cooking in a nice airy room. The Abbey is wonderful and this place perfect. Good vegetarian options too which is sometimes hard to find! Well Done

We have been visiting Galloway for many years, and are ashamed to admit we have only just visited Abbey Cottage Tearooms. My wife follows a vegan diet, and finding veggie-friendly places in Scotland can be a little difficult. No so here; there is a separate "Free From" menu that lists which menu items are free from dairy, gluten, egg, etc... More

Hello, and thank you so much for your review and feedback. Our 'Free From' menu has been developed by our team based on real knowledge and experience as we have various dietary considerations 'in house' including lactose intolerance, coeliac and veggie, so we know just how difficult it can be to eat out safely! Most dietary issues can be accommodated,... More

We visited Abbey Cottage during our visit in August 2014 and enjoyed the honest food in this nice and cosy tearoom. The prices were quite reasonable and the service was very attentive. It is the perfect place to take a rest after a visit of Sweetheart Abbey!

Visited the team room after visiting the sweetheart abbey and corn mill, where Moria recommended the Haggis panini and the homemade soup. She wasn't wrong. I had tomato and veg soup which was delicious. My husband had the haggis panini, which he loved. My son and I also sampled the desserts, which were homemade and delicious too. the service is... More

Thank you so much for your review. I'm pleased that your family enjoyed their lunch with us after visiting Sweetheart Abbey and the New Abbey Corn Mill. We make two different soups every day, often using vegetables and herbs from our own gardens. The haggis panini is very popular, and the haggis is supplied by a local butcher in Dumfries. More

We stopped off here on our way back from a short visit in the area. Ample parking to rear of the premises and the tea room itself is clean and well presented. As it was tea and sandwiches I can't comment on the cakes but they looked very good.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review. Delighted to hear that you all enjoyed your lunch. We grow much of our own produce, including the salad leaves, herbs for the soup and the fruit for the jam. The demand from scone eaters is so great that we can just never make enough jam to sell... We visit new abbey a lot, we visited the tea room and it was a nice day so we sat outside, only to noticed a no smoking sign ? What really you are not allowed to smoke sitting outside. We ordered a coffee then left. sorry but i will not be back as I think this is ridiculous.

We have been a no-smoking establishment since we opened over 30 years ago, and our small patio garden area is also no-smoking, at the request of our customers. It's a small, sheltered spot and we agree with them that it is not appropriate to permit smoking in this area as everyone, including children, families and diners, would be affected by... More
