Fabulous

Whilst visitin Hawick I fancied a bite to eat and landed in the Damascus Drum. What a find. The place was quirky, welcoming and relaxing, and to top it off the food was fantastic. Just wish it was on my doorstep and not over 200 miles away.

This is a small café in the town centre of Hawick, with a combined second-hand bookshop and selection of rugs. It has a bohemian feel. It is definitely worth a stop-over due to its unusual theme and excellent coffee. However, go to the cashpoint first (as it does not accept electronic payment) and note that it has no on-licence. You... More

The "Drum" has a very loyal following of both locals and visitors and is a great place to go for a coffee or to sample the home made food. The atmosphere is relaxed, the staff friendly and, though not big, customers are never hassled to leave when it gets busy. No wonder it boasts a Certificate of Excellence from Trip... More

This is a small compact place up a side street thats a little different. The staff were friendly and the scone and coffee went down a treat.

We stopped off in Hawick on our journey along the A7. I have visited this charming cafe before and found it very relaxed and quirky. Love the colour scheme, books and rugs ...I have no idea whether they are overpriced as another reviewer suggests. My only gripe was this visit was slightly spoiled by the couldn't careless attitude of the... More

The Damascue Drum is Hawicks gem. Always warm and welcoming, with staff always smiling. Not many cafes these days where there is a feeling of complete unhurried ness, but this is spot on. Fresh healthy food in a relaxed pleasant atmosphere - what else could you want?

Funny places, café’s. Sometimes, when you walk into one, it’s like stepping into someone’s living room – home made food, gentle lamplight, music, conversation, kettle boiling. When we first open the door of a café we’ve never been to, we make ourselves guests in someone’s home. The question is, whose? This is usually an easy answer, but The Damascus Drum is... More

this is such a lovely little place. A collection of mismatched chairs and tables that all add to its charm. It is surrounded by secondhand books that you can browse through and buy if you would like to. Super staff and a really relaxing little place to take a break. We didn't have it but the French Onion soup looked... More
