Named after a local term for herring, Silver Darling makes the most of a superb spot at the entrance of Aberdeen harbour. Built on the flat roof of the old customs house, the conservatory style restaurant commands panoramic views of the Dee estuary one side, and the length of the beach and headland the other (summer sunsets are priceless). A classic French menu is a triumph of superbly presented dishes, singing with flavour. Three courses at dinner could start with oysters marinated with lime and Granny Smiths, followed by pan-fried Atlantic sea bream in red wine, and the dessert du jour.

Exquisite seafood and a beach and harbour view

Took daughter for Monday lunch. Rrestaurant in glasshouse above stone building. Initially quiet, but quite busy later. Interesting selection of starters, mains and specials. Chose rock turbot in red wine, which melted in my mouth. My wife loved her polenta, but my daughter's fish pie disappointing.

Loved this restaurant. Great food, staff and the views are lovely. We were lucky enough to see the local Dolphins playing as we ate.

The food is excellent and the location of the restaurant is nice. It is some expensive but really good experience.

The service personnel tried hard to compensate for overpriced unspectacular food. The coup de grace was that my son had ordered a medium rare steak which was obviously cooked medium well and the Chef did not accept our observation and insisted on charging for the steak twice when we insisted on on it being replaced. Fortunately the embarrassed service staff... More

I had always been put off the Silver Darling due to cost and unsure if I would enjoy the food. However, my love for seafood has grown and after a recommendation from a friend decided to bite the bullet and go. I am so glad that I did! The food was delicious, I do not understand why this is not... More

We came to the silver darling 4 years ago at lunch time and we agreed it was a wonderful looking restaurant and would be an ideal location location for a graduation meal. The meal we had 1st time around was pretty average it was nothing special. However 4 years later I decided to book this place for graduation dinner and... More

My partner, her younger daughter and I visited this restaurant on the 15th June for lunch ahead of her daughters graduation ceremony. I can honestly say that it is one of the best fish restaurants that I have ever been to. We all had different dishes and found them to be first class in every respect. The staff were friendly... Such a wonderful romantic evening. Food and buzzy atmosphere just made everything perfect. The fish tasted as though it had just been caught - so fresh and flavoursome!

The second visit over 29 years. Dinner for two on a Saturday evening. The front of house meeting was brisk and efficient - leading to a minimalist table setting. Those who like to have a few seasonal flowers etc, - or even a set de poivre may be disappointed. Slices of neoprene-textured bread (what is it about the bread in... More

Tried Silver Darling on the first night of s three day golfing trip with colleagues/friends. I've got to tell you that we had the tastiest, freshest, most plump oysters I've ever had the good fortune to try. We demolished 24 of those bad boys - not one below excellent. All of our starters and main courses were cooked to perfection.... More
