Named after a local term for herring, Silver Darling makes the most of a superb spot at the entrance of Aberdeen harbour. Built on the flat roof of the old customs house, the conservatory style restaurant commands panoramic views of the Dee estuary one side, and the length of the beach and headland the other (summer sunsets are priceless). A classic French menu is a triumph of superbly presented dishes, singing with flavour. Three courses at dinner could start with oysters marinated with lime and Granny Smiths, followed by pan-fried Atlantic sea bream in red wine, and the dessert du jour.

Good but not great!

We had planned to visit this restaurant on our last trip to Aberdeen but read mixed trip advisor reviews amd decided against it. this time we decided to try it for ourselves and though good we thought it a bit disappointing overall. This is a very nice fish restaurant located at the top floor with windows all around. A very marine view to where the ships sail into Aberdeen harbor. The fish dishes were very nice and unique. The monkfish poached in red wine with black pudding croquettes were absolutely perfect. One improvement could be to increase the number / types of... More

Booked a table for our anniversary in mid May. Pre-planned a special dish with the owner and they pulled it off brilliantly. Staff were great, food was excellent....thank you.

Nice sea view location, building itself a 'character' as are the wait staff. Excellent food and friendly/cheeky waitress.

I used a voucher for this lunchtime visit but I will certainly be back one evening soon and will be more than willing to pay the full price as the quality of food was outstanding and the restaurant had the service to match. On top of this you have beautiful views overlooking Aberdeen harbour

My family and I dined here for my fathers 60th. The service was exceptional all evening, attentive not overbearing. I am not a fish eater myself so I was slightly dubious of the food I would be having. My starter was tomato tartar with tapenade, mozzarella, quail egg and basil and it was very nice. I ordered the Fillet steak... More

I recently visited the Silver Darling with my partner for our anniversary, and it was the best meal I have ever eaten. I've been to Michelin star restaurants and this was even better. To start we both had the lobster risotto, it was creamy and delicious. My monkfish main was perfection as was the steak, and the sticky toffee pudding... More

The food was delicious. Some of our party were vegetarian and the choices were all equally good and imaginative. The service was excellent but very friendly. The location was so perfect, beautiful summer evening watching the boats sailing in and out of the harbour, Very enjoyable meal!
