Named after a local term for herring, Silver Darling makes the most of a superb spot at the entrance of Aberdeen harbour. Built on the flat roof of the old customs house, the conservatory style restaurant commands panoramic views of the Dee estuary one side, and the length of the beach and headland the other (summer sunsets are priceless). A classic French menu is a triumph of superbly presented dishes, singing with flavour. Three courses at dinner could start with oysters marinated with lime and Granny Smiths, followed by pan-fried Atlantic sea bream in red wine, and the dessert du jour.

food to die for.

Renowned as being expensive, we recently went here for a Group on introduction. The service was first class as was the food. We will be back so Group on has done its job.

We went here for a celebration lunch and were not disappointed. We had a lovely table looking out to sea on a gorgeous spring day so the views were fabulous. Lunch was delicious - scallops and salmon for our starters, sea bream and tuna for mains. Everything was very well cooked. Service was excellent, especially the young waiter, Rory. He... More

Visited with elderly parents (who are not used to dining out) as a treat bought as a gift voucher. Unfortunately the restaurant was also booked by a large table who had decided it would be lovely to provide their own entertainment in the form of bagpipes and flutes. Very inconsiderate to other diners. The staff were very apologetic especially when... More

Some really good seafood, beautifully presented and with very charming staff. The views from the restaurant at the mouth of the River Dee can be very dramatic. Had a lovely lunch whilst watching boats coming and going. Staff were not at all pushy as you get in some places and went out of their way to assist with dietary needs.... More

Have been for lunch three or four times over the last few months and the standard of food is always excellent . I love a table by the window looking out on to the mouth of the harbour. Had not visited this old favourite for a few years , but will certainly be back .

My wife and I had lunch at Silver Darling today with a voucher from itison, the menu is cut down to three choices of starter, main and dessert. The choices for us was fine and the food was good. We had beers to drink and was surprised to see £4.75 for not a half pint of beer!! I know this... More

Visited for lunch. Lovely setting but food and choice not as wow as we expecting. We had very high expectations for our visit as we have heard such good reviews over the years. We felt our experience was a little above average however worth a try.

Was recently very lucky to have visited the Silver Darling Restaurant in Aberdeen and found it to be delightful from start to finish. The Staff were curteous, friendly and had found the perfect balance between formal service and laid back casual dining. I've heard of the Silver Darling being rather expensive but in all honesty I thought that the prices... More

I had a great family dinner here on a Friday night. The food as service was outstanding an we tried pretty much the majority of the menu as we were 7 people. The waiter ( half Italian) was very attentive and made sure our glasses were always full and we had everything we needed.
