Description: Named after a local term for herring, Silver Darling makes the most of a superb spot at the entrance of Aberdeen harbour. Built on the flat roof of the old customs house, the conservatory style restaurant commands panoramic views of the Dee estuary one side, and the length of the beach and headland the other (summer sunsets are priceless). A classic French menu is a triumph of superbly presented dishes, singing with flavour. Three courses at dinner could start with oysters marinated with lime and Granny Smiths, followed by pan-fried Atlantic sea bream in red wine, and the dessert du jour.

Faultless service, superb food. We all chose the daily specials for starters and main course and were all reluctant to finish our monkfish poached in red wine as it was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. What's not to like about the view.......continually changes all afternoon and the welcome from Stuart the Seagull is truely Aberdonian.

Located in one of the most characterful areas of Aberdeen, the Silver Darling delivers perfectly judged, beautifully executed, imaginative marine-based fayre in a great setting. Every course was a gastronomic revelation, perfectly paced with unpretentious but efficient service. I am a long way from being a fish-lover but the Silver Darling convinced me that a fish soup based on Arbroath... More

Went for lunch as a birthday celebration for my husband. It was a Monday so not very busy and did slightly lack atmosphere. The view over the harbour is great and the restaurant is bright. The service is very good. The menu is small but the food is delicious. It is fairly expensive and the portions are on the small... More

The food was definitely the star attraction here, there really is no view, it consists of a play ground to one side, a rather large harbor masters building to the front, and lots of large service ships for the rigs to the other side, your better off sitting with your back to all that and concentrate on the food, go... We went for lunch with our child and elderly granny. We were warned (by a friend) that there was a spiral staircase and tried to organise access in advance. The staff did well and allowed us access through the rear but it was still a steep and long staircase instead. Had I known about that I'd have gone elsewhere. You... More

Very enjoyable evening had with good friends at Silver Darling. Service was attentive but not overly so. Each course was delicious and the views were incredible. We had read mixed reviews about the place but were pleased with the presentation, amount and quality of the food as well as the service. The ambience really makes this place shine. Strolled through... More

Took my wife and i for our 45th wedding anniversary the staff were superb welcoming us with a complimentary glass of Champagne and their knowledge of the menu items. My request for my preferance on a menu item was accommodated by the Chef with no problem all and all a fantastic meal.

We reserved at the last minute, so ate at 5:30 when they opened. The setting on the water is wonderful. One can watch the shipping activity while eating, and fog rolling in just adds to the romance and magic of the evening. Yes, the food is pricey, but some of the best we had in Scotland. We remember especially the... More

Four of us ate hear last month and bill came to well over £400 and that included just 2 bottles of £35 wine. The food is good (but is that really a plus point in a restaurant, surely it's a given the food will be good) the service is fine but again, not when compared to the cost to the... More
