Named after a local term for herring, Silver Darling makes the most of a superb spot at the entrance of Aberdeen harbour. Built on the flat roof of the old customs house, the conservatory style restaurant commands panoramic views of the Dee estuary one side, and the length of the beach and headland the other (summer sunsets are priceless). A classic French menu is a triumph of superbly presented dishes, singing with flavour. Three courses at dinner could start with oysters marinated with lime and Granny Smiths, followed by pan-fried Atlantic sea bream in red wine, and the dessert du jour.

Dinner and a view

Excellent food with a wonderful view. The lamb and seafood were great. The gnocchi were pedestrian. Desserts were excellent. Only complaint were the portions were small. But the view and location are worth the trip.

The reason for the average rating is that we felt that for we got it's way overpriced. Also annoying that you have to ask for price of the specials as they are not stated on menu. The other annoying thing is that there is a 10%service charge automatically added to your bill...now I was more than happy to give a... More

OK we were 10 minutes late but the window table we had booked had been given to others which we were very disappointed about. The service was slow, for a mid week night, though the place was busy so I would expected an additional member of staff to have been on which would have eased the problem. The scallop starters... Had dinner at the Silver Darling - the food was amazing. Beautifully displayed, extremely tasty. The staff were exceedingly helpful without being over bearing. The views are lovely - along the beach on one side and by the harbour on the other. Was so good we went back for lunch.

We honoured our commitment to our daughter to come here on her graduation. Great day, and the restaurant was busy. So much so, that because there was a delay to being taken to our table, we were given a bottle of Prosecco to enjoy in the downstairs waiting room. Although the views were lovely, and the service was attentive, the... More

This long established seafood restaurant in Aberdeen is situated at the mouth of the harbour from where, as you dine, you can enjoy the views of colourful oil supply vessels leaving the harbour on one side and a glorious view like Cape Cod 40 miles up the NE Scotland coast of the other. The service was friendly and efficient and... More

Lovely location, overlooking the beach and the port. You pay for the view. We had the lobster, even though i asked for the large, i got the medium, just a bit bigger than the langoustine. For that price, 35 pound, you only get the tail, not the claws. I suspect they sell them to other customers as an entrée.. The... More

We recently attended a function at the Silver Darling, our first visit to the restaurant. The setting is wonderful with views across the harbour, no doubt best seen in the summer. We had a set menu and in truth it did not appeal greatly when we first received the details, but we were very pleasantly surprised and enjoyed being taken... More

I took a group of work colleagues here for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed the excellent seafood, the friendly service, and the spectacular view out over the harbour, especially on a long summer's night!
