After all the positive reviews maybe my expectations were too high as I was disappointed by several aspects of my meal in James street south. Quite a difficult menu to dicipher with no chicken or pork. (My 2 favs) portions were on the small side and my starter consisted of 5 miniature carrots and a teaspoon size blob of creme... More

Once again we stumbled on this, by walking around near our Hotel, and going down some side streets. The Resturant is located in the same building as a cooking school, so we assumed it was part of the school. This was the very best meal we had in Ireland. We had the charcoaled vegetables and chicken on couscous, and they... More

Good choice of food I had the cured salmon starter. This was a substantial helping for a value menu. My husband enjoyed the pea soup saying it was the best he had ever had. The main course was mackerel for my husband and cassoulet and both were really good. The staff were attentive. The toilets were particularly good and for... More

Pre-theatre menu was good value at £18.50 for three courses. Starters were small but very tasty tasty, mains were delicious. House red and white wine very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will visit again.

This restaurant just gets better and better the food was excellent, the service from friendly and courteous staff great menu and wine list fine dining in Belfast to match the best anywhere. The restaurant has also just had a refurb which has given it a more open and airy feeling which works well. If you like cheese the cheese selection... More

I've been to James Street South before and always enjoyed it. This was no exception. Menu: the lunch menu was good (although limited, but that's fine given the price), however it was a little odd to be offered side dishes given that the courses are meant to be complete Food: very tasty - modern British cuisine Service: a little on... Had lunch today at the newly refurbished restaurant. The food was excellent, we had 3 courses and each one was delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I love the new layout and decor. It was a birthday treat and at the end I was presented with a birthday macaroon complete with candle! Will definitely be back.

Excellent 3 courses on Saturday 19th April. Scallops beautifully tender and flavoured; main courses of duck and lamb were perfect: everything has its own distinct taste and my friend said hers was the best meal ever in JSS - I agreed. This would be in my top 5 restaurant choices in Belfast. Its not cheap and portions are not large,... More
