Wonderful Mother's Day Lunch

The restaurant manager kindly organised a table for us on Mother's Day at only 24h notice. We arrived at 12pm and although we had to give up the table at 1.30pm the staff did not rush us in the slightest. The waitress was kind, attentive, efficient and fun. We had a champagne aperitif and then the... read more

We have eaten here many times - before the latest refurb - the tables are far too close together, the portion sizes were ridiculous given the price, and the new minimalist decor is devoid of atmosphere. I politely complained to the waitress and she apologised - although we weren't charged for my main, nobody explained this and I only found... More

Hello AndyMac, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Feedback is extremely important for us and we are really sad to hear your visit was a little disappointing. Decor can be very divisive and I'm sorry ours isn't to your taste. We want the restaurant to have a more casual feel than before our refurbishment in August.... More

I have just arrived home from a wonderful morning at James Street South Cookery Class. This is the second time I have been and today the class was on fish and shellfish. The class of seven people (normally eight) was treated to a thoroughly informative and relaxed cooking experience. The chef/instructor Brian was incredibly knowledgable and erudite; his enthusiasm for... More

This place showed us how important service and ambiance is in a dinner experience. We went with a group of friends on a Saturday night (they do two sittings, at 7:30 and 9:00) and it was buzzing. The open kitchen adds to the friendly modern feel of the restaurant and makes you feel relaxed and welcome. Staff is attentive and... More

My boyfriend took me here for a Valentine's treat, and it was amazing! From the moment you walk in the door until we left it was first class service. Loved the simple classy decor, very relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was so friendly and attentive, we had a carafe of red wine which was lovely, the food - amazing! I had... More

Myself and 3 other friends went here for my friend's birthday ! It was a Monday night - but the restaurant was full ( walked past several empty restaurants to get to it ) so obviously the other customers had been before and returned for the amazing food ! First the menu - I can't remember the last time I... More

Visited James Street South with some friends on a busy Saturday evening and was blown away. We all selected the Tasting Menu and thought that it was amazing, and the matched wines were superb. Excellent friendly ( but not overbearing) service. It's not cheap, but then good things never are and IMHO it's great value. It has a very minimalist... More

The décor is minimalist but the food is the reason to go to James St South. I was dining alone and asked the excellent Melinda for a corner table which was exactly what I got. I opted for the tasting menu and it was an inspired choice. The two varieties of bread with Abernethy butter were a great introduction and... More
