Where to start, myself and 3 friends has the awful experience of a late lunch here on Sat, started of with the worst waiter ever, completely surly and practically threw the drinks menu at my friend when she asked for it, walked away in the middle of us ordering our wine as we paused to discuss, just really rude! We... More

The Northern Whig has a great interior and outside tables offer a colourful view of city centre. Cocktails are extensive and inexpensive by Belfast standards during Happy hour. The restaurant food is standard not exceptional but the space is an unusual enough to make up for the lack of culinary art. The communist statues have a great history worth inquiring... More

Ordered the sharing plate to start, ribs good but everything else deep fried and just terrible, not even a finger bowl in sight, or offered, finger food and no finger bowl, not good. The restaurant itself is so unique and lovely! The statues inside it really add character to the place. The food was delicious, with bread and olives for starter and a large mixed grill for 2 for the main, and a nice brownie for desert. It was delicious. Service was average - first waiter we had was terrible but the lady... More

We went for food before going to a gig close by. We were 2 couples, both ordered the beef and bird sharing board. Firstly at £24 i would expect more to share, the meat was good, 1 steak and 1 chicken breast. But got 1 tomato, 1 mushroom, few chips and some onions. Nowhere near enough for the price that... More

Iyou are ever asked where to take a visitor for lunch, just go to The Northern Whig in Bridge Street, Belfast and you won't be dissapointed. A quiet, roomy, history filled space with privicy and yet bussing with Belfast charm to allow you to enjoy good food at good prices. Usual drinks available from pleasant staff. I have often been... Had a bite to eat here last night and a few drinks with a family member. The meal wasn't bad, just extremely bland, tasteless and overpriced for what we got. I have paid a lot less in other eateries and got much more in quality - vegetables were almost raw and the champ was lumpy. Drinks are a little on... More

We have eaten here twice and the food was really nice. I think they need to hire more staff as the those who work there are clearly under pressure. So overall; decent food but the rushed staff and not so friendly service means I'll go back for a drink but not for a meal.
