The best food we had on our trip to Belfast

My wife and I ate here whilst on a four day trip to Belfast and it was the best meal we had on our trip. The food was big portions and good value for money. My wife had the beer battered fish and I have the pork schnitzel which both were excellent. Really nice friendly pub atmosphere and a... read more

This is what we would call a great Irish pub. Good beers & wine, welcoming fire on a cold, wet day and the staff also made us feel welcome. My husband had the soup of the day which was "spot on" for a cold day and I had their onion, potato & smoked cheese tart which was wonderful, my kind... More

Have enjoyed visiting the John Hewitt bar for many years, for both food & drinks. Took my mother-in-law from oz here for a meal last year & she was very impressed. Great food, plus friendly & helpful staff. What more could one ask? :)

I was used to the pub and i was always happy with it, either the craic at night then the calm relaxing meals during the day. I just visited it with my family, went there for some food, and i found it really worsen. the menù is much shoter, staff is not really welcoming, not at all family friendly and... More

Called on a Friday night after work. Had frequented the bar in the past but hadn't been for some time. The John Hewitt was always a venue for live music and should be congratulated for that. The downside is the total indifference of staff. Glum would be a fair enough adjective. I asked the barmaid for two pints of Guinness... More

Been to The Hewitt countless times and never disappointed. Fantastic beer selection, laid back punters, relaxed surroundings and flawless pub grub! They really do the simple things, that so many places get wrong, really really well; an example is their beer battered fish with homemade chips and tartare sauce which is always on the money!

Because my husband has been very ill and is on a very limited diet we had been wandering around Belfast looking for a lunch he could eat. Delighted we chose the John Hewitt as the atmosphere was lovely and very relaxed. Excellent service very tasty food and we did not need much tea. Food is fairly traditional Irish pub food... More

A quiet, laidback venue with good beer and music. Not particularly bright or stylish, but enjoyable Will return.
