Another Gwaelod wine-tasting evening

A gourmet (and gourmand) evening last night, in good company, as we enjoyed yet another of the Gwaelod's themed wine and food evenings. Some lovely examples of Allan Scott's New Zealand wines were teamed up with a delicious four course menu of canapés, paella, duck three ways, cheese and, to round... read more

always full and you have to book well in advance, but the quality doesn't justify the price. average food with very inflated prices.

Some lovely examples of Allan Scott's New Zealand wines were teamed up with a delicious four course menu of canapés, paella, duck three ways, cheese and, to round things off, a zingy lemon dessert. A top occasion!

Visited on a Tuesday evening for dinner with a group up of friends. Parking is very difficult so we were pleased to have come by taxi. Drink in the friendly bar downstairs before we went upstairs to the restaurant, where our table was ready. Good, quite lengthy menu with several extras on a Specials board. Starters were excellent but cost... More

My partner and I dine out in the Cardiff and Pontypridd area quite a bit, but we're always drawn back to the Gwaelod-Y-Garth. It's become a bit of a joke between us, but the pull is it's all-round excellence ..... Good value food. A nice comfortable dining experience. Quality without the affectation. A good rotation of specials. Attentive and warm... More

I regularly go here on Friday lunch times with colleagues. The food is great, they always bring bread and butter while we wait for our mains and also give loads of chips. The food quality is excellent and they regularly change the ales on offer. A proper traditional pub with an open fire and great atmosphere.

What a terrible experience for what seemed like a lovely pub to have a quiet drink in. On arriving to the pub went to the bar to order 5 drinks for my family, only for a grumpy old fart of a bar man to sigh rafter each drink I ask for! Then to say to me " what you going... More

This was our first visit to the Gwaelod y Garth Inn and it won't be our last! It was a lovely meal - we can recommend the parsley and apple soup (specials), the faggots, the lasagne, the bread and butter pudding and the raspberry and hazelnut roulade. All courses were tasty/delicious; service was friendly and efficient. Good value for money... More

The Gwaelod y Garth Inn is my home village local. I now live in Somerset but regularly visit my parents who still live in the village. 80th. Birtday Celebration 2011 - Yes it was some time ago, but the memory of a great evening with 21 guests in the cosy back room upstairs lingers. We were allowed to decorate the... More

I'd eaten here a few years ago and it was excellent, so I thought it would be nice to have a birthday meal here with my family. I'm delighted to say that the standards are still top notch. The menu is varied, with a lot of locally sourced ingredients and is complimented by specials of the day, so there is... More

There were 4 of for supper our friends have been here on many occasions, we arrived early, we were seated quickly, the service was very good our waitress Sophie was brilliant, she advised us on the specials board, and guided us through the menu, the men through the beers and the pub has a micro brewery. Nothing was too much... More
