Dishes vary greatly in quality.... but good visit overall

Went here for a birthday party as a group of 8. We pre-booked and they had only reserved us a table of 7 so we had to go chair hunting in a busy pub..... Good varied menu, very reasonably priced. Comments on the food varied greatly depending on what was ordered. With the starters, the... read more

Looking for some pub food while in Cardiff, we came across the Pen & Wig and decided to give it a shot. There is a great selection of beer on tap and we sampled some of the local beer. They also have a good wine selection and ciders on tap too. The food was much to be expected - good... More

This cool pub which is hidden away near Cathays Park and close to the National Museum is popular with students and white collar workers alike. I visited during lunch time and had a delicious meal of sausages and mash which was reasonably priced. The female staff member that served me (I think her name was Charlotte?) was friendly and recommended... More

This pub has always been very good and a blast on match days. Since becoming a free house the beers has improved but it's a shame there's no brains. Food is decent enough, reasonable value but a bit beige

We had a great lunch, club sandwich in the lovely garden on a sunny spring Saturday afternoon. Not bad value at £5.50 and a good selection of beers. Also nice inside so wil be back. Hidden away from the centre we really thought this was a great find. My son who is at Uni took us there but it was... More

This is a really nice bar for a drink inside or in the large beer garden. The clientele is a mix of students and local workers. It tends to get very busy at lunch hours. Now to the food , this can be really hit and miss. In fairness, it is well priced and they can usually ensure you get... More

Lots of space, lots of drink choices, and great atmosphere. Stick to the beers - or go with a cocktail on special (don't get inventive).

Since being taken over by a chain the prices have soared. No more the pie meal and a pint for less than £6. The food is adequate and the beer is excellent but the price for a pint is no longer a bargain. It has all become very corporate and rather expensive for a student clientele but still worth a... Arrived Sunday afternoon ordered from the 2 for £10-45 menu, we all managed to order something different, Sausage and spring onion mash, Burger with optional Sweet potato chips, Scampi and chips, and BBQ chicken. All arrived together in a reasonable time all freshly cooked nicely presented. If I had a complaint I am not a fan of packet fried frozen... More

We found this place by accident after a visit to Cardiff Museum - what a hidden gem! The choice of real ales was amazing, we worked our way through 3 of them! We also had some lunch which was really good, so fresh and tasty, and excellent service. Nice atmosphere too, a traditonal pub, well worth a visit!
