I liked Barkers. I'd really like to keep on liking it too, but the service I had on my last visit may have pushed me too far to ever return..... Firstly, when customers arrive at the counter at least acknowledge them even if you're really, really busy chatting to your colleague... Secondly, try to deliver to the table what the... More

Thought the atmosphere was great, lots of comfy leather armchairs. The coffee as great too as was the cake. Staff were very friendly. All in all much better than a "big chain" and would definitely recommend

Barker is my absolute favourite place to go. Their chocolate and vanilla marble cake is the best piece of cake I've ever tasted. Their sister, Barker Tea House, also does a gorgeous Parma violet cake! Couldn't love this place any more than I do. The afternoon tea at the Tea House is also so, so lovely and great value!

Madame Fromage in the Castle Arcade, our normal breakfast stop was shut so we tried this coffee bistro a few yards away. Yes the coffee was excellent. My breakfast fine on a doorstep of bread but my wife's scrambled eggs were murdered by being swamped in whole grain mustard so that was all one could taste. No mention of this... More

Excellent service as always. Food delicious and a unique atmosphere. Well worth a visit for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. Extra seating has been added because this little gem has become so popular. Also has extra tables in the arcade with blankets for cooler days.

This was recommended in the New York Times article on 36 hours in Cardiff. Although we two couples had already had breakfast elsewhere, we came upon it by accident while strolling through a Victorian arcade and decided we must take advantage. We ordered coffee and tea and one large breakfast for the four of us: scrambled duck eggs, stewed tomatoes,... More

Really disappointed with visit yesterday. Lovely looking place for sure, but really let down by poor service and food. Very quiet Tuesday afternoon. Took over 20 minutes (no exaggeration) for a panini. Had to go back to counter to ask for it three times. When it finally arrived it was plonked down on table without a word from staff. It... More
