Pub History This Wetherspoon pub is the former Coliseum cinema, which opened in 1913 and screened its last film in the 1990s. The first permanent film show in Abergavenny was around 1912, when a Victorian corrugated iron hall on Park Road was used as the Picture Palace. The following year, the Abergavenny Coliseum Company acquired land in Lion Street, and the Coliseum opened on 3 November 1913. In mid 1989, the cinema's stalls were converted to shops with a cinema above. By 1998, the Coliseum had become a bingo hall, with various shop units, and is now this Wetherspoon pub.

Went here today with my dad and sisters and we wasn't disappointed. The meals were cooked well with no complaints. Service with a smile and good atmosphere. Nothing out of this world but if a pub lunch is what you want this place won't disappoint. Would definitely return.

Popped in for a breakfast and once again 'Spoons didn't disappoint. Service was quick and the full English was great. You know what you're going to get and its great value. The setting of this place is good too. Will eat here again.

After a vigorous walk west of Merthyr - the Four Waterfall trail _ here we are enjoying Curry night in the J D W chain. Nice length of bar frontage in what seems to be a smaller outlet. Neat tables and no piles of dirty plates as one can see in other outlets. Useful free car park within 45 metres... More

No doubt that Spoons offers tremendous value. Aber seems to miss that little bit of spark that other Wetherspoons offer. Nothing terribly wrong, but many minor points could be addressed.

Hi there, is anyone else doing the Wetherspoons challenge--to visit every Wetherspoons? We have visited many throughout the UK but with the start of 2015 we have decided to record our visits and experiences starting with Abergavenny. Actually we visited the Coliseum twice in January. This pub must be popular judging by the number of people there. Service is always... More

This place has an odd atmosphere. I can't put my finger on it. It was enough to put me off to go somewhere else, but the rest of my crowd wanted to eat. You order at the bar, which some people don't like. The menu was long, but too bitty, expecting you to pay for extra this and extra that,... More
