Nice food

Stopped for Sunday lunch. It was a great meal, I had roast beef, my husband had tuna and we both enjoyed our food. Although I left a lot it was just too much for me. Well worth the random stop, not a place I would normally stop at but glad we did. To drink we had tea and a coke... read more

Conscious that bad reviews can hurt honest business's I hold back on this one. 6 of us (all professionals and very very experienced diners) booked for the Clytha, none of us were impressed, I thought my meal had just exited the microwave, the others in the party also not impressed. Will be a very long time before I return if... More

I have waited a few weeks before reviewing so that I could be objective and not review on the basis of how I felt when we left the restaurant. I must say it utterly amazes me that a restaurant this bad can have any positive reviews, it makes me wonder where these come from. This was not a one off... More

Went to this pub on Friday. They have a good selection of real ales, from smaller independent brewers. The menu is good, with plenty of choice. The home made faggots are available as a starter (you get one) or main course (two). I thought they were perfect, but another member of our party felt they were too livery. I love... More

Having not been to this pub since its heyday in the 70's I was amused at the now relaxed atmosphere. More a pub these days , comfortable but by no means smart. It maybe a good idea to shut after Christmas and give it a makeover. Ok food and as expected a wait for freshly prepared fare but over an... More

This place is legendary for the AWFUL service... contrasting with the good food -- sometimes the food is better than good. Great value, good beer, friendly, it's got it all going for it, but so many people stay away because of the awful slow service. We have even booked and been almost the only ones there and still had to... More

Love this place, been a few times during Clytha Castle circular walks. Varied and interesting beers and menus (including tapas), quality food, polite staff, great decor, welcome walkers. Pretty much everything I could ask for.

My wife and I recently had dinner here with a group of friends. It was a filthy evening with strong winds and rain and a relief to arrive and be welcomed by a real log fire and a rustic friendly feeling. We enjoyed a drink in the bar before entering the dining room to have a pre-ordered meal. Both starters... More

Booked for Sunday lunch. It's always a wonderful experience the relaxed ambience and pleasant feeling from the staff compliment the amazing food. We have used the Clytha arms for 20 years - not as often as we would like to but always come away with a feeling that Andrew would topple all the other so say top eateries in Abergavenny.

Called in on our way home from a day on the beach. Chosen from an old edition of The Good Pub Guide and happy to report they are still worth a listing. Informed straight away that they started food at 7pm (it was 6:30) and that we could sit anywhere with the children (11 and 6). We happily played 'boxes'... More
