Excellent meal, lovely service

We had some lovely choices on the menu, but chose the steak and ale pie. It was a large meal, but quite delicious. The family owned and ran the hotel and were very pleasant and friendly. Would go again in an instant

We recently stayed in a delightful holiday cottage at Bettws which is close to Pant-y-gelly and The a crown became our local for the week and we couldnt have wished for better. we dined there three or four times during our stay including a cracking roast lunch on Sunday after climbing the nearby Sugar Loaf mountain. The proprietors of the... More

The Crown at Pantygelli is an excellent country pub. It has a lovely selection of food and the real ales are very well kept. The service was excellent and the food was served quickly. There is a nice country feel about the place and it was a lovely evening and I would like to return again soon.

We popped in for a drink as we headed up the valley. The welcome at the bar was super friendly and the cider refreshing. But as we looked around the families, friends and couples were dining in very bright, unsubtle light. It was more akin to Bernie Inn ambiance than cosy hill-side hostelry with quaint features and log fire (... More

Stopped here for lunch with a friend who lives locally and who recommended The Crown. We weren't disappointed. The pub offers a good selection of beers and the food that we had (curry, fish and chips and salad) was pretty good. Service from the landlady was exemplary. Lovely ambience here.

We visited the Crown for a birthday celebration. The welcome as always was warm and the real log fire was burning away . The food was fantastic . A starter of liver ,pine nuts ,raisins and shallots was excellent as were the mushroom and truffle ravioli. The main course was rolled belly of pork with seasonal vegetables and scampi and... More

We recently visited the Crown as part of a Golden Wedding celebration. The pub was warm, full and with plenty of atmosphere , and the service was excellent. Unfortunately, as many of us are vegetarian , we made the mistake of ordering the Thai curry. The flavour was good but it resembled coconut flavoured thin kale soup. The kale was... More

Went with friends for sunday lunch and found it excellent. The food, staff and value were, in my experience, amongst the best and I am not particularly impressed easily. Service was astoundingly fast for us and the final bill was low to the extent I thought they had made a mistake (they hadn't, it's just great value). Probably need to... More

We were taken by two very good friends who live in Abergavenny to the Crown Pub for Saturday lunch. It turned out to be a simply splendid experience. A "gastro pub" without all of the ghastly atmosphere that term usually brings to mind. Hidden away down a small country road it retained the atmosphere of a pub where you would... More
