Again a very enjoyable evening, 2nd visit. Food was good. Service & attention to detail was superb even down to little touches for my partners birthday. Would have liked to see the fire lit in the dining room to add a little warmth to the dining room on a december evening.

We had lunch here today using a deals voucher from Amazon Local. The restaurant is 7 miles from the centre of Abergavenny - a 15 minute drive. The chef is obviously very talented and the service was friendly and professional - we thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though the voucher made it an absolute bargain the quality of the offering was... Went there with my better half on a Saturday lunchtime, having first purchased a voucher for £24, for two people to dine. Had a very pleasant welcome, and a nice glass of Prosecco whilst perusing the menu. It was explained to us that the voucher covered just the main course, and that anything else was extra. Ok, no problem there.... More

We had a wonderful lunch there on a Saturday. Lovely homely welcome, very nice glass of Prosecco. Comfortable seats to sit and peruse the menu. We were shown into the restaurant, and a small loaf of bread was brought to our table, warm and delicious. I could have polished off the bread with no problem. A complementary amuse bouche was... Had a superb meal in 1861 last night. From the moment you walk through the door you feel extremely comfortable with your surroundings and Kate looks after your every need in a very kind and professional manner. The food is an amazing experience and well cooked by a very competent chef who has worked hard to achieve the standard he... More

The greeting was very warm and welcoming but it went downhill after that. I had fish soup to start which was a bit bland apart from an overwhelming taste of dill. My husband had a game terrine which was mediocre. As a main course I chose Halibut which was the tiniest piece of fish served on lumpy mash with a... More

The mini loaf with butter, followed by a small cucumber in jelly concoction came as a pleasant surprise as neither were ordered. The ordered food was a bit of a mixed bag. We had lamb, boar, and pork. My belly pork at nearly £25 was very good but rather pricey for what it was. My wife had the lamb which... More

Have been here a few times now and always had a great time. From the moment you take a seat in the comfy leather chairs of the bar area the 5☆ service begins. The staff are professional and friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. The food is always of a very high standard I have read some... More

Only a small restaurant but with excellent food and service. The owners have created a little gem of a restaurant with a lovely bar area and dining room with flexible menu that allows both set menu and a la carte dining to suit your taste. Beautiful duck to start and wild boar for main! The ability to swap between the... More
