We really enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Rob from White Castle Vineyards recommended we visit 1861 during our vineyard tour. He recommendation was well deserved. We enjoyed Sunday Roast with starters and the great atmosphere. We particularly liked the zucchini (courgette) tempura starter. The staff was very nice and the setting is charming.

Just come back from a lovely Saturday lunch at 1861. Went with group of four. The service and food was excellent. Can't understand the previous review as the waitress was charming and could not fault the food. The only problem is it is in the middle of nowhere!!! However it is well worth the journey. We even stopped of at... More

Went here for an anniversary meal and we were really disappointed. The food is over-priced for what is served, lack of vegetarian options, service is poor and made to feel like an inconvenience being there. Atmosphere is nice within the restaurant itself but overall not a great experience

My wife and I visited this restaurant on Tuesday 2 sept.2014.We were greeted by the lovely waitress who was very efficient.I had the marinated mackerel for a starter which was very well presented. We both had the fillet of hake with champagne and assorted vegetables. Both of us thought the fish was rubbery as though microwaved, everything else was delicious.I had the... We called again to have a lazy lunch using our voucher for 2 mains and a glass of bubbly. Fabulous as usual! The dessert menu couldn't be ignored, so tempting. .. I had the triple chocolate desserts, yes,... 3 different desserts on one plate, ... Heaven! - And followed by lots of coffee and chocolates,it was a great way to... More

The whole experience of 1861 was very good. We went for Sunday lunch (4 adults) and it was quite quiet, only 9 covers. We were greeted by Sally who was super, the attention was just right, not over the top but helpful. Simon, her husband, was chef and he produced a very good meal. Starters included scallops, risotto, and broccoli... More

We went for the "foraging menu" and this adventurous choice was well rewarded. The décor, table linen, cutlery and china are all worthy of a Michelin star, exquisite. The staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. The food was tasty, delicate, not overwhelming and really different to the usual menu choices. I would definitely recommend and return.

We booked dinner at 1861 as a mid week holiday treat and left feeling slightly confused. The bar area is 'cosy' - so much so we could have joined in the conversation of any of our fellow diners. The physical menu looks like it belongs in the 1970s (sheets of printed paper slipped into plastic sleeves). The dining room looks... More

I'm starting at the end as my soufflé was to die for and I'll return just for that. The main course was returned as the fish wasn't cooked - but mistakes happen and it's the way it's dealt with which is most important, and they were excellent. They swooped it away with an apology and swiftly returned the meal when... More

The food is exquisite. My courgette flowers with goat's cheese starter and hubby's scallops were both really good. The beef and lamb in the main courses were 'melt in the mouth.' The passion fruit soufflé for dessert was another winner. We went on a Tuesday evening and most tables were full. Service is attentive but not intrusive. The waitress put... More
