Have been here a few times now and always had a great time. From the moment you take a seat in the comfy leather chairs of the bar area the 5☆ service begins. The staff are professional and friendly and genuinely seem to enjoy what they do. The food is always of a very high standard I have read some... More

Only a small restaurant but with excellent food and service. The owners have created a little gem of a restaurant with a lovely bar area and dining room with flexible menu that allows both set menu and a la carte dining to suit your taste. Beautiful duck to start and wild boar for main! The ability to swap between the... More

We took a family party here for Sunday lunch recently and were very impressed. Luckily we had booked since all the tables were taken. We were delighted with everything we tried and my wife especially liked the wide range of vegetarian options. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and the deserts were to die for. The wine list provides a... More

Went for an anniversary dinner with my fiancee. As foodies, and hospitality workers ourselves, we just loved 1861. Knowledgable staff, relaxed and intimate atmosphere, quality food. We will be back :)

We visited the restaurant for the fourth time this year for my husbands birthday and will continue to go back. It is on the higher end of the price scale but is a lovely place to go for a treat and there are often deals through travelzoo which can help take the blow! But I believe that you really do... More

Overpriced for what we had, duck to start, couple slices and a leg which was overcooked. Main course was pheasant, very nice but glad we had bread to fill up on. 2 starters, 2 mains 1 dessert 2 glasses wine 1 beer £98.00 :(

This seems to be a popular local choice - busy even on a weekday. But it was not to our liking: sorry! Our main course was not very nice at all. The whole approach is, for us, over fussy... I know people are hooked on the idea of fine dining but for us everything was too messed about. The dessert... More
