The restaurant clearly aspires to very high standards but they deliver this in a non-stuffy/unpretentious atmosphere. It's good service, good food and good wine - just how... More

We had a slightly frosty reception when we arrived as we were five minutes late. I presumed this was because the restaurant was packed and they were running to a tight schedule, but it wasn't. We had a Groupon, and I am very glad I did as I would have not been happy paying the full price. The mains are... More

We went to 1861 for a private birthday party. The food was amazing. Considering there were approximately 30 people in the party, the service was excellent. The Beef Wellington I ordered was superb. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely be returning for another special occasion (or possibly before!)

I can't rave enough about this place. Where to start.....ample parking across the road to begin with. We were greeted by a very charming young lady on a Thursday evening at 1861. The service is excellent and eloquent, really a 1st class service. We were offered proscecco with green and black olives as an aperitif. Following on to the restaurant... More

My partner and I ate here recently on a Saturday afternoon with a living social voucher. I must admit when we parked across from 1861 in their car park I wasn't sure about it as it doesn't look overly inviting (this is just my opinion). However, on entering I was pleasantly surprised ... The owner greeted us and was very... More

I was recommended this restaurant by an old and trusted friend and I was not disappointed. Whilst visiting the area with a friend for a long weekend, we decided to dine at 1861 one evening and enjoyed a delicious dinner served by a delightful waitress. The menu choice was excellent and the food was very good. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful... More

Friendly, wonderful welcome by owner and waitress no swearing when tray of glasses inadvertently dropped and food to break the diet for and not regret an ounce!

We head many good comments about 1861 and went for Sunday lunch. We hesitate to go out on Sundays as very often the quality of the lunch seem to be of a lower standard. Not at 1861! You could not fault it: from the warm welcome, the professionnal serving and the exquisite food. The Chef has certainly a great future... More

I booked a table at this restaurant to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. I had heard many good things about the 1861 restaurant and decided it was time to go there. Upon arrival my wife and I were surprised to find we were the only customers. It was actually a Wednesday night so we were not overly concerned. We were... More
