We cannot compare the Walnut Tree with any other restaurant we have visited and consider ourselves blessed to live near enough to be able to go there regularly. We choose to take advantage of the lunch-time Fixed Menu which always offers enough choices and superb quality, without breaking the bank. Every dish is presented simply and exquisitely - piping hot... More

Oh my goodness this is a real find, situated in beautiful welsh countryside the Walnut Tree is everything a dining experience should be about. Informal, innovative , and surprise surprise a chef who is in his own kitchen. The food is superb atmosphere good and staff friendly. I just want to keep going back . Nothing to dislike

Had heard from a colleague that this was "the other" excellent restaurant in Abergavenny so managed to book a mid-week slot for my wife & I. Had a lovely summer evening drive from Cardiff on the A449 and then A40 (and A465 just at the end!) to the restaurant. Space enough on the forecourt for approx. 12 or so cars.... More

I have been an occasional visitor to this fabulous establishment for many years. Since Shaun Hill took up residence I have always been very happy with the quality of his cuisine and the lovely staff who have served us. Last week I had his set lunch.3-course lunch. There were five of us in the party and the bill including pre-lunch... More

I have dined here twice recently. The first time the food was very good the service was very poor. The second time the food lacked something and the service was better. This would be alright if the place a was not trying to be up market. The menu reads very well, including the savouries option at the end of the... More

Stopped writing reviews on Tripadvisor as they make millions on the goodwill of people for the odd 'Top reviewer badge'. However, feel compelled to write this review as there have been a couple of dodgy reviews for this restaurant. Our experience today, 28th June, was that the food and service were absolutely flawless. We both had the set lunch-amazing flavours.

The bar door was left open during the whole of our visit. The draught penetrated the restaurant and there was no evidence of any heating system. Usually, I am the one who feels too hot in various places, so The Walnut Tree experience had to be really cold for me to comment on it. Even though it was a June... More

I went again a couple of weeks ago, it is always a bit hit and miss the mise en bouche was a warm liver parfait in a choux bun which was very good, the bourride was absolutely perfect and a fantastic dish , the rest was good but not exceptional. Nice service fairly full but not packed. around 160 BBP... More

We have a holiday home in the area and eat out a lot locally. We are spoilt for choice with great restaurants and pubs in the area. But the Walnut Tree is genuine class! We hadn't been for a while, having been a bit disappointed a few years ago and, as I say, because there are so many other good... More

Our meal at The Walnut Tree was exceptionally average and very disappointing for a Michelin-starred restaurant. I ordered a crab linguine for a starter which turned out to be extremely spicy to a point where you could not identify the crab. There was no mention of this on the menu as, not liking spicy foods, I would have avoided it.... More
