lovely lunch

Pleasantly surprised by the generous portions from the set menu. The food was tasty and fresh, really enjoyed. I do have to say that the desserts were not as wonderful as hoped.

Cant go wrong with this for a Michelin Star. Good honest price structures also. Best to read what the Good Food Guide gave it for description. Service was informal and friendly. I personally liked the place very much. The only thing I would say which is NOTHING to do with the restaurant at all and is quite inappropriate actually, is... More

We had dinner at the Walnut Tree Inn on 22nd May. A very good dry Martini started the evening nicely (although I was disappointed that the olive was delivered in slices). The food was excellent, especially the starter of lobster with coriander & lentil sauce. Every course was outstanding. The atmosphere was laid-back and the staff were friendly, although the... More

An interesting restaurant, with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic flavours, varied menu and good wine.

Shaun Hill never fails to deliver fantastic flavours. It's a varied menu and I'd choose everything on it if I could afford to eat there every week! Service is friendly, relaxed but professional and very efficient. They are very knowledgable about the menu, which is good as there are often a few things which are new to us, whether a... More

We were very excited to go to the Walnut Tree this Saturday just been as it was somewhere my friends and I had on our bucket list for many years. We booked the table a few months ago to co-inside with another event taking place in Machen and our friend made the trip down to London especially. However, when shown... More

The Walnut Tree is situated a few miles from Abergavenny not easy to find, the decor is that of good pub don't expect white table cloths and leather seats. After we were seated and asked if we wanted a drink and ordered we were asked a further three times before we actually got a drink, we ordered from the a... More

Went here for a birthday lunch. We had the set menu which was good value. Staff were attentive as you would expect and the quality of the food was exceptional. Small touches such as chocolates with coffee and individual hand towels were lovely. The atmosphere was not overly pretentious which made for an enjoyable experience.

It's easy to ignore or simply take places for granted and before you know it their gone! Ever since Franco, then Francesco and now Shaun The Walnut Tree has been special. The fabric has changed slightly as has the service but both remain refreshingly similar. The food has moved onward and upwards with a greater subtlety and flair. There is... More
