Description: The Black Boy Inn is a listed building which is situated in the historic town walls of the Royal Borough of Caernarfon. The Inn is within easy walking distance to the town centre, and the famous 13th-century Castle. An old Inn dating back to 1522 and with its wooden paneling, low ceilings, and thick wooden support beams generates a cosy 'Olde Worlde' Welsh atmosphere. The Black Boy is a very busy Inn; please do not expect it to be a slow laid back hotel. It is in the centre of the tourist hub of North Wales and long wait times can be norm in middle of summer. Come and visit us in the winter season for a more laid back feeling. We now also have Black Jacks, which is another renovated building in courtyard, at rear of Inn .Black Jacks is away from the hustle of the main Inn . All suites have small kitchen area.No lift in building. Some Ground floor rooms are easy access with walk in showers , 1st floor variety of rooms as is 2nd floor.we offer 24 hour staff attendance. When you stay in any country you must wish to stay in somewhere that reflects that country ,we certainly do majority of our staff are welsh speaking and so are the owners .Meal TimesSunday to Thursday: Noon until 9.00p.m. Friday and Saturday. Noon until 9.30p.m.Table reservations can be made via reception up to 6.30p.m. Table allocation after 6.30.pm. will be made on availability. Waiting times can vary and an indication of any delay will be conveyed to you. To arrange a table reservation (up to 6.30p.m.)In peak season we cannot accept table bookings at all due to the volume of trade.

Very atmospheric with friendly efficient front of house staff. However food was very mediocre. After reading previous reviews we were looking forward to our dinner. However, there was little choice of local specialities such as fresh crab and lamb. We had crab cakes, over cooked and of doubtful origin and lamb shanks, which nowadays are available in every supermarket. Veggies,... More

This place is beautiful, situated in a small side road next to the walls and a childs play park. The whole hotel is gorgeous, seriously beautiful, the food looked great, (we didn't eat here) the beer garden is gorgeous but, you need to be rich, the beer is seriously overpriced.

Beer prices in most areas are decided to reflect the type of trade and market that the Inn is seeking. And that is the case with us with many years of experience in small provincial towns . We are not a Wetherspoons or cheap late night bar .pricing is fixed to reflect the monies we invest into the property .As... More

While on a tour of Caernarfon, we were told about this restaurant. It is thought to date back to 1522. I loved the authentic old pub atmosphere. We ate in the bar and drank wine and beer before we ordered our meal. I had the Welsh pie which was delicious! It was a large serving and came with veggies and... More

Thank you so much for this review. We are a very old Inn with old fashioned values , we still use salt and seasoning in our meals .Hence the odd complaint about this fact , but to majority of our customers this what they prefer. More

The Black Boy was recommended to us by a local, and it may well be that we just went on a bad day, but it was very disappointing. Food could best be described as huge quantities, but of mediocre quality. In particular, the starter of black and white pudding was stodgy and of poor texture and taste. It would have... More

Sorry you feel the quality was not to our normal standard . I will pass your comments on to Marius the head chef when he returns from holiday . We have large kitchen brigade of 20 here serving up to 800 meals a day in peak season.Again please accept my apology . More

Loved the Welsh food, the Welsh-speaking waiters, and as an added treat, some morris dancers performed in the lane in the front.

We visited The Black Boy Inn whilst on holiday with our family - four year old and 2 year old. The food overall was good, fresh, big portions and tasty. The kids food was all home made and no processed rubbish. My daughter had sausage and chips, sausage was butchers quality and chips hand cut. They also had a good... More

Since reviewing this pub restaurant two years ago, we have been there several times. Recently we returned, and found it just as good as ever. There is a large choice on the menu, and a Specials Board too. We took a long time deciding, and watched others as their food arrived. As someone has mentioned the portions are generous! The... More

We ate here on the recommendation of a lady in the ticket booth at the Castle & it was great. The food was outstanding but be warned, the portions are huge. Mussels as a starter was enough to be considered a main meal. The Welsh Stew ( I think it was called "Lobscouse" ) was too much for me &... More

Visited here due to the good reviews and recommendation by friends, the service was good and the food was hot and plentiful and no one had any complaints. The only downside to our visit was nthe cost of drinks £4.95 for a pint of Peroni Lager (very good by the way), this place is a must visit if you stay... More

Peroni is a very high premium lager which we sell not cheap anywhere. I have paid up to £5.50 a pint for this my self in other venues, but it is good as you say . So please return when you can and thank you More

Great food. Good selection of beers and whiskeys. Not a cheap night (drinks are very expensive) but you know you'll get a good meal.
