The Black Boy Inn is a listed building which is situated in the historic town walls of the Royal Borough of Caernarfon. The Inn is within easy walking distance to the town centre, and the famous 13th-century Castle. An old Inn dating back to 1522 and with its wooden paneling, low ceilings, and thick wooden support beams generates a cosy 'Olde Worlde' Welsh atmosphere. The Black Boy is a very busy Inn; please do not expect it to be a slow laid back hotel. It is in the centre of the tourist hub of North Wales and long wait times can be norm in middle of summer. Come and visit us in the winter season for a more laid back feeling. We now also have Black Jacks, which is another renovated building in courtyard, at rear of Inn .Black Jacks is away from the hustle of the main Inn . All suites have small kitchen area.No lift in building. Some Ground floor rooms are easy access with walk in showers , 1st floor variety of rooms as is 2nd floor.we offer 24 hour staff attendance. When you stay in any country you must wish to stay in somewhere that reflects that country ,we certainly do majority of our staff are welsh speaking and so are the owners .Meal TimesSunday to Thursday: Noon until 9.00p.m. Friday and Saturday. Noon until 9.30p.m.Table reservations can be made via reception up to 6.30p.m. Table allocation after 6.30.pm. will be made on availability. Waiting times can vary and an indication of any delay will be conveyed to you. To arrange a table reservation (up to 6.30p.m.)

Wow! Beautiful satisfying food

We had been told by a friend that this restaurant was fantastic so whilst visiting Caernarfon we just had to try. We were not disappointed. The service was first class. The food. Wow. I had the lamb shank off the specials which was simply divine. They kept it simple and served it with mash and... read more

In a building that dates back to the 1500's, its always going to be atmospheric. Dark inside but tables lit by faux candles. Lots of interesting trinkets inside to look at. Staff attentive and seemingly bi-lingual in Welsh and English, so authentic "Welsh" experience for the discerning traveller. Lots of choice here on menu and on the specials board. Very... More

The most unforgivable aspect of eating at the Black Boy is the fast turn around. Taking away the completed starter plate with one hand and replacing it with the main course in the other hand is unforgivable. Despite asking the waiter for a 10 minute break in between courses, our main arrived within seconds of our starter course being removed.... More

Been coming to this restaurant for years, but this was our first visit for a while. Thankfully, little has changed. Same superb decor, helpful and courteous staff, brilliant ambience with extensive menu and delicious food. Lunchtime menu is particularly good value. We stayed here a few nights a couple of years ago and the room was fantastic too

Fantastic evening atmosphere with Welsh singing to the juke box. Meal was fantastic with plenty to choose from and plenty of dining rooms depending on what you require quiet/family/bar

We took refuge from the rain on Sunday 23rd August. Found a cosy corner in the bar & there we stayed for several hours. This is a very busy pub & was packed with visitors . Great atmosphere & a good place to people watch. After several pints we selected a meal from the menu & ate this in the... More

Went to the Black Boy Inn for lunch and it was a disappointing experience. The staff were indifferent - polite but not exactly welcoming and after being sold chips with my meal they never appeared. I asked the waitress who said she would get them but she never returned. By the time I finished my meal they still hadn't turned... More

I agree we are a very busy Inn which is surely a reflection of our normal service levels. I am sorry on this occasion that 1 member of staff let the rest of the 85 members of the team down, plus yourself as the most important the customer .I can only apologize for this matter. More

We didn't book and had been warned they'd be busy. We'd also been told the food was good, so we decided to have a drink and wait. Good decision! The beer is very well kept, the menu extensive and turned out to be good value for money. The mussels in sauce was excellent. The steaks were thick, juicy and tasty.... More

Whilst staying in the nearby premier inn, we found we couldn't get a table for 5 for dinner..... turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the reception staff directed us to the Black Boy. Arriving without a reservation for the restaurant, the manager found us a table in the bar. The children's menu was varied, much more so... More
